The Unchosen One - A Harry Potter Story

When Marigold Lupin-Black, the daughter of Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, begins attending Hogwarts, she realises that pureblood supremacist ideologies still exist years after Lord Voldemort's defeat. The British wizarding world's fears come true once again when Delphini, the daughter of Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange, seizes the position of Minister for Magic to "make the wizarding world great again" by expelling Muggles, Muggle-borns, squibs and werewolves, separating them from witches and wizards. Will Marigold be able to follow in her idol's footsteps, end Delphini's reign of terror and prove herself a true hero?

Chapter 5

Besides Flying, Marigold's other favourite class was History of Magic. However, many others disagreed; a lot of them considered the class boring.

"What do you like so much about History of Magic?" Cosette asked.

"Learning about the First and Second Wizarding Wars, of course," Marigold said.

That day in History of Magic, they learned about the Werewolf Code of Conduct. Although a ghost taught Sirius and Remus during their time at Hogwarts, Professor Daphne Greengrass now taught the class.

"Pity it failed. It only makes sense that werewolves should be locked up every month," Parkinson commented.

"Werewolves are dangerous!" Bulstrode cried. "They're aggressive beasts who attack wizards."

Marigold felt a rush of anger; she couldn't just listen to them talk about her father like that.

"My father is a great man!" Marigold stood up, banging her fists on her desk. "At least he wasn't a coward who sucked up to Voldemort as yours did."

"Maybe your father might've been like that, but that doesn't mean a lot of werewolves were!" Avery yelled. "Greyback was on Voldemort's side!"

"Greyback turned my dad into a werewolf!" Marigold had tears in her eyes; she was shaking with anger. Andrew patted her in the back to calm her down.

"Parkinson, Bulstrode and Avery!" Professor Greengrass bellowed. "I will not tolerate that kind of language in my classroom. Ten points will be taken from Slytherin. Ten points each."

"Thirty?" Avery asked, bewildered. "You can't be serious!"

Everyone else was also clearly surprised that Professor Greengrass, who was a Slytherin herself, took that many points off of her own house.

"I am very serious." Professor Greengrass said.

"Maybe they should've locked up werewolves' children along with them," Parkinson whispered.

"If Lupin-Black's father is as great as she says he is, I wonder where she got it from," Bulstrode whispered back.

Professor Greengrass shot them a stern look, and they immediately shut their mouths.

After the lesson ended, Marigold received a very pleasant surprise as if to make up for the incident. Professor Greengrass gestured at Marigold to come to her desk.

"Ms Lupin-Black, I think you might like this," she said, presenting Marigold with a book. "It's about the history of the Wizarding Wars."

"I've noticed that you spend time in the library quite often." Professor Greengrass recalled all those times she saw Marigold reading or studying with Teddy and Victoire. "And you seem very eager to learn more about this time period. I'll allow you to keep it."

"But Professor-"

"I insist." she smiled warmly.

"Thank you so much!" Marigold exclaimed; she couldn't believe that Professor Greengrass so easily gave her a book about a topic she loved so much.

Marigold finished her homework as soon as she could so that she could read the book she got from Professor Greengrass. Although Marigold had asked Sirius, Remus and Andromeda multiple times about the Wizarding Wars, she was always eager to learn more about that part of history.

"Your nose is stuck in that book all day," Andrew commented, as he read over Marigold's shoulder during supper one night.

Marigold nodded, too engrossed in reading to reply until she read something that caught her eye.

"This is weird," she squinted slightly. "Whoever wrote this is making it seem as though pureblood supremacist ideologies don't exist anymore."

"But that's not true," Andrew said as he read the passage Marigold was pointing at. "You've heard what those Slytherin gits said to you and David."

"Exactly," Marigold said. "We literally have pureblood supremacists right here at Hogwarts."

One day, Marigold paid a visit to Professor Greengrass.

"Professor, I wanted to talk to you about something," Marigold said. "It's about something I read in the book you gave me."

"The book made it seem like pureblood supremacist ideologies disappeared along with Lord Voldemort's defeat in 1998."

"Ms Lupin-Black, I know exactly what you're trying to say." Professor Greengrass said, looking at her sympathetically. "And I'm sorry you had to listen to them talk about your father like that."

"Thanks, Professor, but I've heard even worse. Flint and Rosier told my friend David that he shouldn't be at Hogwarts and that he doesn't belong in the wizarding world simply because he's Muggle-born." Marigold explained; she could tell that Professor Greengrass was horrified.

"The book is wrong. Minister Shacklebolt made all those anti-discrimination laws, yet pureblood supremacists still exist, even at our school."

"I agree with you, Ms Lupin-Black." Professor Greengrass said. "Lord Voldemort fell years ago, but there, unfortunately, are still those who believe that they're superior simply because they're purebloods."

"That's terrible," Marigold said.

"It is. Most wizards have some Muggle ancestry anyways; otherwise, we would have died out. And there isn't a spell Mr Edwards cannot do."

"Professor, do you think the wizarding world will truly become equal one day?"

"I don't know." Professor Greengrass said. "But I don't want you to lose your hope, either. With young people like you, I'm sure there will be a day when we're all judged not for our blood status, but for the kind of people we are on the inside."
