The Unchosen One - A Harry Potter Story

When Marigold Lupin-Black, the daughter of Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, begins attending Hogwarts, she realises that pureblood supremacist ideologies still exist years after Lord Voldemort's defeat. The British wizarding world's fears come true once again when Delphini, the daughter of Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange, seizes the position of Minister for Magic to "make the wizarding world great again" by expelling Muggles, Muggle-borns, squibs and werewolves, separating them from witches and wizards. Will Marigold be able to follow in her idol's footsteps, end Delphini's reign of terror and prove herself a true hero?

44. The Missing Student

Chapter 44

 “Have you seen James?”

“No, when I woke up this morning, he was gone,”

 “Where is he?”

On their way to Charms, Marigold and Andrew overheard a few Gryffindor boys from the year below them talking amongst themselves.

“We didn’t see him during breakfast either,” Marigold said.

“Did he ever tell you he would be going away anywhere?” Andrew asked.

 Marigold shook her head.

“We should ask Lupin-Black, she probably knows,” one of the younger Gryffindor boys suggested.

“Hey, Lupin-Black,” another boy turned around.

“When’s the last time you saw James?” the last boy asked. “You’re going out with him, aren’t you?”

“I was with him last night, in our common room,” Marigold turned a few shades of red, flustered at the fact that they knew.

“But we haven’t seen him since this morning,” Andrew added.

“We haven’t seen him either,” the first boy replied.

“Where in the world is he?” the second boy added.

* * *

Professor Flitwick went flying across the room as the students tried their best not to laugh. Marigold, Andrew and Louis jumped to their feet at once to help him back up.

 “Thank you,” Professor Flitwick said.

Just then, Professor Longbottom came into the classroom.

“Sorry to interrupt your teaching, Filius,” he said, before turning to the students. “A student is missing,”

Marigold and Andrew exchanged concerned looks, as the other students started bustling.

 “Who?”

 “Who’s missing?”

 “Where?”

 “Where are they?”

 “I hope it’s nothing serious,”

“Students, please head to your common rooms immediately,” Professor Longbottom said. “Your Heads of Houses will be with you shortly,”

“Class is dismissed,” Professor Flitwick announced hastily before leaving with Professor Longbottom.

The corridors were crowded and bustling as students came flooding out of every classroom, hustling to their common rooms.

Professor Davies, Professor Greengrass, Professor Longbottom and Professor Slughorn were talking in hurried voices amongst themselves. Professor Flitwick joined them.

“None of my students has seen him since this morning,” Professor Longbottom said.

“I’m afraid he was taken into the Chamber of Secrets,” Professor Davies added.

“We’ve searched everywhere in the castle but there,” Professor Greengrass added.

“We better send someone down there,” Professor Slughorn added.

“Who is it that is missing, Neville?” Professor Flitwick asked.

“James Potter,” Professor Longbottom replied solemnly, before walking away with the other professors.

Marigold turned pale. Louis’s jaw dropped to the floor.

“I can’t believe it,” he whispered.

“It’s just like we expected,” Andrew said under his breath, before turning to face Marigold.

Marigold didn’t say anything; she looked as though she had just gotten punched in the stomach.

“Marigold,” Louis tapped on her shoulder.

 Marigold finally opened her mouth.

“I better go down there myself,”

“What?!” Andrew screeched. “Are you mad?”

“It’s too dangerous,” Louis added. “Let the professors take care of it,”

“Do you even know how to get into the Chamber of Secrets?” Andrew asked.

“I do. Someone has to go down there, and it should be me,” Marigold replied hastily, before turning away; she started running.

“Marigold, no!” Louis called out. “Come back!”

 “Marigold!” Andrew shouted.

Marigold didn’t turn around; she teared up as her thoughts drifted off to James being down at the chamber and what could possibly happen to him as she ran.
