Chapter 40

During breakfast, a few days before the start of the term, Archimedes flew into the kitchen with a letter tied to his ankle. Marigold untied the letter.

“I didn’t expect Moony’s response to arrive so early,” Sirius said, taking a bite into his toast.

“It says it’s from Hogwarts,” Andromeda glanced at the envelope.

“I hope it says I became Head Girl,” Marigold opened the envelope and pulled out the badge; her eyes practically popped out of her head.

“Head Girl!” she exclaimed, which startled Archimedes. “It says Head Girl, right here!”

 “No way!” Sirius cried out.

“I know, it says so right here!” Marigold showed him the badge as Andromeda opened the letter and skimmed through it.

“You are Head Girl!” Andromeda exclaimed. “Congratulations!”

“I can’t believe it!” Marigold cried out, feeling a rush of excitement flood over her.

“Congrats, Goldie!” Sirius said, ruffling his daughter’s thick blonde curls.

Marigold threw her arms into the air, letting out a shout of joy.

Sirius and Andromeda smiled at Marigold proudly as she strutted across the platform, standing tall so that everyone could see the Head Girl badge on her chest.

When Marigold ran into Louis, who was with his parents, she first noticed the Head Boy badge he was wearing.

 “Louis!” she called out.

“Marigold!” Louis’s eyes also moved to her badge. “You’re Head Girl?”

“Yeah,” she smiled proudly. “Congrats on becoming Head Boy!”

“Thanks, same to you,” he replied. “I’m looking forward to us working together.”

“Me too,” Marigold said, holding out her hand; she and Louis shook hands, vowing to lead their promising last year at Hogwarts.

Meanwhile, Sirius and Andromeda began talking to Bill and Fleur.

“Is Remus enjoying it in France?” Bill asked.

“He seems to be, although he can’t wait to come back home,” Andromeda replied.

“My parents seem to enjoy having him at home too,” Fleur said. “But I really hope he’ll be back at home with his family soon.”

“Hopefully that wretch Delphini will hit her head and forget all this rubbish or get kicked out of the Ministry, whatever comes first,” Sirius said.

The four laughed as Harry came over with Ginny.

 “Sirius!”

“Harry!” Sirius embraced his godson as Bill and Ginny hugged each other.

“Harry and I ran into Luna’s family earlier. James, Albus and Lily are talking to them right now.” Ginny told them. “She and Rolf’s sons are starting Hogwarts this year.”

“Well, Marigold and Louis will help them, right?” Andromeda asked, turning to the youngsters.

 “Of course,” Louis said.

“That’s our job as Head Boy and Head Girl, after all,” Marigold added.

While they were talking, Scorpius arrived at the platform with his father and grandmother. When Andromeda saw them, she froze.

“Marigold!” Scorpius ran over to her.

“Scorpius!” Marigold excitedly waved at him.

As Marigold and Scorpius hugged each other, Narcissa and Draco nodded at Harry, who also responded with a nod.

“Hi, Scorpius,” Sirius greeted him, smiling kindly.

 “Hello,” Scorpius replied politely.

Sirius affectionately ruffled Scorpius’s hair, which made him smile as his cheeks turned pink. Meanwhile, Andromeda and Narcissa continued to exchange awkward glances.

“Hi, Cissy,” Andromeda said coldly. “It’s been a while.”

“Yeah, I really missed you, Andy,” Narcissa replied, then turned to her cousin. “I missed you too, Sirius.”

Andromeda and Sirius continued staring down at her.

“You missed us? Really?” Andromeda raised an eyebrow, her normally kind brown eyes filled with resentment.

“You didn’t do anything when we got disowned by your noble, most pure House of Black for being decent, unlike you lot.” Sirius quipped.

Harry, Ginny, Bill, Fleur and Louis just stood there, wide-eyed at the family drama.

“Listen,” Narcissa pleaded. “Andy, Sirius. I owe you two an apology. I was such a fool. I should’ve stood by you two. We’re family.”

“Family?” Sirius scoffed. “You’re no family of ours, Narcissa. Not after you betrayed us and joined those pureblood supremacist scum.”

“Sirius is right,” Andromeda added, glaring into her sister’s eyes. “You treated Ted like scum simply because he has no magical blood, even though he’s as much of a wizard as we are. And you treated Sirius and me like scum for not having the same disgusting beliefs you have. We’ll never forgive you.”

“I know,” Narcissa said, a tear streaming down her beautiful face. “I always knew it was wrong, but I never had the strength or courage like you two did. I was a fool and a coward, and I understand if you want nothing to do with me anymore. But I really, really miss you two.”

Draco put his arm over his crying mother while looking at the others apologetically. Marigold turned to Scorpius, leaning over to whisper to him.

“But if Andy and your nan are sisters and they reconcile…”

“That also means we’ll become family too,” Scorpius whispered back, nodding.

Harry noticed the youngsters whispering and cleared his throat.

“What is it, Harry?” Sirius asked, his expression softened.

“I don’t think it would be so bad if you made up with her,” he replied, somewhat hesitantly.

“Not you too!” Andy said, a little annoyed.

“Hear me out, alright?” Harry said. “Mrs Malfoy saved my life.”

“What are you talking about?” Sirius asked, confused.

“During the Second Wizarding War when I got hit by the Killing Curse in the Forbidden Forest, Mrs Malfoy lied to Voldemort and said I was dead; she’s the reason why I am where I am today.”

“And because Mrs Malfoy saved your life, you were able to defeat Voldemort and save the wizarding world,” Marigold said to herself as she processed those words.

 “Exactly,” Harry said.

“You?” Sirius looked at Narcissa, stunned. “You betrayed Voldemort to save my godson’s life?”

“I never knew,” Andromeda added, surprised.

Before Narcissa could say another word, Sirius grabbed her hand.

“Thank you,” Sirius said genuinely, his grey eyes staring into hers. “Thank you for saving my godson.”

“Yeah, and we’re sorry too, we never knew,” Andromeda added, tearing up. “What you did was very brave.”

“Does that mean you three will become family again?” Scorpius asked.

“Please?” Marigold added. “Mrs Malfoy saved Uncle Harry and I would love to have her in the family.”

Marigold and Scorpius pleaded as Sirius, Andromeda and Narcissa stood there, conflicted.

“Alright,” Sirius finally opened his mouth. “Andy, Cissy, the kids are right. I think it would be better if we put the past behind us and move forward instead.”

Narcissa smiled at Sirius before embracing him; she then turned to Andromeda, and the two sisters hugged each other tearfully.
