The Unchosen One - A Harry Potter Story

When Marigold Lupin-Black, the daughter of Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, begins attending Hogwarts, she realises that pureblood supremacist ideologies still exist years after Lord Voldemort's defeat. The British wizarding world's fears come true once again when Delphini, the daughter of Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange, seizes the position of Minister for Magic to "make the wizarding world great again" by expelling Muggles, Muggle-borns, squibs and werewolves, separating them from witches and wizards. Will Marigold be able to follow in her idol's footsteps, end Delphini's reign of terror and prove herself a true hero?

Chapter 28

Victoire and her sister Dominique, who was chosen as maid of honour, gathered Marigold, Lucy, Roxanne, Molly, Rose and Lily, whom Victoire chose as her bridesmaids, to discuss their dresses.

“What about light blue?” Marigold suggested.

“That would look lovely,” Victoire agreed. “And it would bring out the colour in your eyes.”

“Light blue is great,” Lucy said. “But I think a darker blue would be better. It would suit Roxanne and me better since we both have brown hair.”

“Lucy’s right,” Dominique added. “The majority of us have red hair: Molly, Rose, Lily and me. I think a darker blue would also suit us better.”

“Dark blue is also nice,” Marigold said. “How about a deep cornflower?”

“That sounds very nice. Deep cornflower it is, then.” Victoire smiled, satisfied.

“I guess we’re done with the planning now?” Dominique asked.

“We are for now.” Victoire nodded.

Victoire, Dominique, Lucy, Roxanne, Molly and Rose started talking. Lily pretended to listen, but she seemed as though she would much rather be on a broomstick. Even Marigold couldn’t hide her boredom.

“I think I’m gonna go,” Marigold yawned. “Lily, do you want to come with me or stay here?”

 “I’ll stay here,” Lily replied.

“Alright,” Marigold headed out, closing the door behind her.

Marigold leaned her ear against Teddy’s bedroom door; she could hear Teddy and Lorenzo Santini, whom he made best man for the wedding, talking in muffled voices. Marigold decided not to bother them; she stopped by the library to pick up a book she had been reading and went outside.

The weather was nice and sunny without being too hot. Marigold lay down on the grass and opened her book; she was reading for a little while when she was interrupted by someone.

 “Goldie?”

Marigold turned around to see James heading toward her.

 “James?”

“There you are,” he said. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”

Marigold felt herself flush but tried her best to look calm.

“What are you reading?” James asked as he sat down next to her.

“Les Misérables.” Marigold replied. “Rose let me borrow it.”

“Now that I think about it, I think I’ve seen Rose reading it last year,” he said. “I suppose Aunt Hermione introduced it to her; she loves books.”

“She’s so cool,” Marigold said admiringly. “Speaking of which, Rose told me that her brother, Hugo, will start attending Hogwarts with Lily in September. And the author of this book is named Victor Hugo. So do you think…?”

“I won’t be surprised if Aunt Hermione named Hugo after him.” James nodded; he grabbed a chunk of Marigold’s hair, which made her blush. “I haven’t read it though; it’s much too long. Can you tell me what it’s about?”

“Well, it starts off with Jean Valjean being in prison for 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his sister’s child.” she began explaining. “His sentence finally ended, but Javert, this awful inspector, gave Valjean his parole and told him that he’ll always be a criminal.”

James started plaiting Marigold’s thick blonde curls; she became so flustered that she couldn’t talk.

“And then what?” James asked, which made Marigold come back to her senses.

“Sorry, I spaced out for a moment.” she chuckled. “Anyways, Valjean broke the parole and was on the run from the police until Bishop Myriel found him and let him rest at his church.”

As James plaited her hair, Marigold picked daisies to make herself a flower crown as she continued explaining the plot.

“And of course, Marius was devastated to find out that Cosette would be going to England,” Marigold said as James picked daisies to put between her plaits. “But he saw Éponine’s note, and he decided to join the revolution. That’s how much I’ve read so far.”

“I feel bad for Éponine. She loves Marius, but he has no idea because he has his eyes for Cosette.” James said as he put the last daisy in Marigold’s hair.

“Yeah,” Marigold put the daisy crown on her head.

“You look like a forest fairy,” he said, taking a good look at her.

 “Thank you,” Marigold beamed.

 “You wanna lie down?”

 “Sure,” she said.

They lay down on the grass side-by-side, facing the clear blue sky.

“How does it feel that Teddy’s getting married?” James asked.

“A little weird, to be honest,” Marigold replied.

“I’m the oldest, so I’ll probably be married before Albus or Lily, but I imagine it would also be weird to see them getting married.” he chuckled. “But do you like Victoire?”

“I do, she’s quite nice,” Marigold said. “And I like the idea of having her in the family. I’m looking forward to the wedding.”

 “Me too,” James smiled.
