26. Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw

Chapter 26

While Marigold was studying for her O.W.L. exams in the Gryffindor common room, James came in with his hands full of sweets.

“I got you your favourites,” he said, putting them down on a nearby table, which made the other Gryffindors turn their heads.

“Thank you so much,” Marigold smiled. “Where did you get all these?”

“From the kitchens, of course,” James smiled back.

“Let me guess -” Marigold smirked as she cut a slice of apple pie. “You snuck in with your Invisibility Cloak.”

James nodded with a smug look on his face; he couldn’t keep his eyes off of the food either.

“Do dig in,” Marigold told him. “You brought all this, after all.”

James picked up a doughnut and took a bite. As the two ate peacefully, the other Gryffindors gathered around them.

“Such a gentleman, aren’t you, James?” Fred asked with a mischievous look on his face.

 “Shut up, Fred,” James blushed.

Just then, Andrew walked into the common room and noticed the other students gathered around the assortment of sweets on the table.

“Wicked!” his eyes practically popped out.

“Andrew! Come join us!” Marigold waved him over.

“Can we have some too?” Hercules asked.

 “Sure,” James said reluctantly.

Soon, the Gryffindors were gathered up, happily eating the sweets.

“By the way,” Marigold said, taking a sip of pumpkin juice. “Did I mention that Celeste replaced Parkinson as the new Slytherin Seeker?”

 “Did she really?” Andrew asked.

“I already know, Albus told me,” James said.

“Thank Merlin,” Georgina said, biting into a treacle tart. “I like Celeste; she’s quite nice.”

“Who are we going against next week?” Noel asked.

 “Gryffindor and Ravenclaw,” Marigold replied.

Because of everything that happened with Isabella Miller a few weeks ago, Marigold was more determined than ever to beat Ravenclaw in the match. Even James noticed how tense she was as the Gryffindor team headed to the changing rooms.

“Don’t you worry, Goldie,” he assured her. “We’ve got you on our team.”

“Thanks,” Marigold tried to smile a little.

The Gryffindors all got into their Quidditch gear and headed out to the sound of the trumpet; the Ravenclaws came out from the other side of the pitch.

When Madam Johnson blew her whistle, the fourteen players kicked off into the air on their broomsticks. Marigold looked at each member of the Ravenclaw team; she finally turned her gaze to William Chang, the Ravenclaw Chaser, and remembered Parkinson’s comment.

“I don’t even care about this match. Julius isn’t even in it anyways. And I doubt that the slit-eye would even be able to see the Snitch before that showoff Lupin-Black catches it, as always.”

Marigold felt a twinge of guilt, especially since William was quite nice and a fair player. But then, Isabella Miller’s face popped into her head, and Marigold remembered what she was fighting for, why she wanted to beat them.

 “Gryffindor wins!” Madam Johnson announced.

Marigold basked in the glory, waving the Golden Snitch in her left hand and smiling proudly at the crowd as the Quidditch pitch erupted in applause and the rest of the Gryffindor team ran towards her.

“Nice one, Marigold!” Georgina exclaimed, high-fiving her.

“You were brilliant as always!” Rose added, giving her a thumbs-up.

When Marigold saw James walking up to her, she smiled even brighter as she tousled her blonde curls.

“Goldie,” James smiled shyly, which was quite unlike him. “You were great.”

“Thanks,” Marigold felt her face flush.

 “Go Gryffindor!”

 “Go Lupin-Black!”

“Make way for Marigold Lupin-Black, the best Quidditch player at Hogwarts since Harry Potter!” Fred exclaimed as the Gryffindor team made their way into the changing rooms.

“Remember Viktor Krum waving at us a few years ago during the Quidditch World Cup?” James asked as he took off his cape.

“I do,” Marigold said; the excitement from being recognised by a star Quidditch player still lingered in her mind.

“And he gave us his autograph afterwards!” James exclaimed, still starstruck. “We were smart to support Bulgaria, don’t you think?”

“Shut up, James,” Rose, who had supported Brazil along with Albus at the time, rolled her eyes.

“So James, is Viktor Krum your favourite Quidditch player?” Hercules asked.

“He’s quite cool, but my favourite is Oliver Wood, from Puddlemere United. My dad used to be on the Gryffindor team with him while they were at Hogwarts.” James replied.

“You can’t be serious,” Noel said.

 “No, he’s right,” Marigold said.

 “Who’s your favourite?” Rose asked.

“Katie Bell,” Marigold replied. “You know, the Chaser from Holyhead Harpies. Moony and Paddy told me that my birth dad was Katie’s cousin.”

“That’s so cool,” Rose said, impressed.

“I’m sure you can be in the Holyhead Harpies someday,” Georgina said.

“That sounds quite lovely,” Marigold smiled. “But I think I would like to go into the Ministry instead, and hopefully become Minister for Magic.”

“I know you’ll do great either way,” James said, smiling at her.

 Marigold smiled back at him.
