The Unchosen One - A Harry Potter Story

When Marigold Lupin-Black, the daughter of Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, begins attending Hogwarts, she realises that pureblood supremacist ideologies still exist years after Lord Voldemort's defeat. The British wizarding world's fears come true once again when Delphini, the daughter of Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange, seizes the position of Minister for Magic to "make the wizarding world great again" by expelling Muggles, Muggle-borns, squibs and werewolves, separating them from witches and wizards. Will Marigold be able to follow in her idol's footsteps, end Delphini's reign of terror and prove herself a true hero?

22. Prefect

Chapter 22

A few days before the new term, Archimedes flew into the kitchen with a letter strapped around his ankle; he held out his leg as Sirius untied it.

“It’s for you, Marigold, from Hogwarts,” Sirius said, handing it to her.

Confused, Marigold opened the letter as a curious Sirius peeked over her shoulder. Remus, Andromeda and Teddy also gathered as Marigold began reading it.

Dear Ms Lupin-Black,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected to serve as Prefect for Gryffindor House. Your school record shows that you have exhibited chivalry, the ability to lead others and the bravery that Gryffindors have long been lauded for.

We are certain that you will continue to be a model for your peers and will take your new responsibilities seriously. Enclosed please find your Prefects Badge, which should be worn on your school robes at all times. Congratulations!

Sincerely,

Neville Longbottom

Head of Gryffindor House

“I’m a Prefect!” Marigold exclaimed excitedly.

“Congratulations, sis!” Teddy said, ruffling her hair.

“I’m proud of you, Marigold!” Sirius added.

“Who knew we would have two Prefects in the family?” Andromeda added.

 “Three Prefects,” Remus said proudly.

“No way!” Marigold exclaimed. “Professor Longbottom also made you Prefect?”

“He did,” Andrew said proudly. “We’re both Gryffindor Prefects!”

“Professor Longbottom probably made both of you Prefects so that someone can control James,” Albus said.

“Shut up, Al.” James rolled his eyes.

“If David was still here, I’m sure Professor Sprout would’ve made him Hufflepuff Prefect.” Andrew said sadly.

“She definitely would’ve,” Marigold said. “He had the highest scores out of the three of us, didn’t he?”

“Anyways, Parkinson should watch out.” James chuckled. “Since now you can take points from Slytherin and give her detention.”

That night, when Marigold entered the Prefects' bathroom for the first time, she was first amazed by how nice it looked. Everything was made of white marble and there was a chandelier of candles on the ceiling. The tub looked like a large swimming pool surrounded by rainbow bath taps.

Marigold tested each tap; the tub quickly filled with water, bubbles and thick foam. Marigold removed her clothes and slid into the water; she played with the bubbles as her gaze moved to the wall. There was a portrait of a sleeping mermaid with long blonde hair and a pink tail.

“It looks like you, doesn’t it?” a voice said.

Startled, Marigold looked around; a bespectacled ghost with her hair in bunches was smiling in front of her.

“Who are you?” Marigold asked, covering herself with the foam.

“They call me Moaning Myrtle.” the ghost replied, then flew towards her.

“I’m not wearing anything.” Marigold crouched.

“I haven’t seen you before,” Myrtle said as she settled herself next to Marigold, then started staring at every inch of her face.

“I’m Marigold Lupin-Black, the new Gryffindor Prefect,” she replied, shielding herself from Myrtle’s gaze.

“Oh,” the ghost said. “I saw another new Prefect come in earlier to take a bath.”

“Don’t tell me you spied on Andrew as well,” Marigold said, irritated.

“Why, do the new Prefects want nothing to do with me? Of course, who would want to be friends with ugly, moping, Moaning Myrtle!” she began crying.

“That’s not what I meant, it’s just -” Marigold said, then sighed. “Forget it.”
