Chapter 29

In his fourth year at Hogwarts, Harry once again shows his mettle.  This year Hogwarts is to play host to students from two other schools of magic, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, and a champion from each school is to be chosen by the Goblet of Fire to participate in a dangerous contest called the TriWizard Tournament.  After choosing the three champions, the Goblet inexplicably spits out Harry's name as well, in spite of the fact that Harry is three years too young to participate.  Much to everyone's surprise, Harry performs so well that he could have won the tournament had he not played fair with his competitors.  As it is, he ties for first place with the other Hogwarts champion, Cedric Diggory, captain of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, who last year caught the Snitch after Harry had fainted from a Dementor attack and fallen off his broom.  Harry suggests that they grab the TriWizard Cup together, which they do.  It turns out to be a Portkey; it transports them to a graveyard hundreds of miles away, where they hear someone approaching them.

Armed with the information you gave him, Harry instantly realizes that Voldemort arranged for him to be brought here, away from your protection and within Voldemort's reach.  He whispers to Cedric to grab the Cup again when he does, and they are transported back to Hogwarts, where they tell you what happened.

His suspicions turn out to be correct.  The person they heard approaching them was none other than Peter Pettigrew, carrying a tiny Voldemort with him.  Voldemort needed Harry's blood to complete his transformation to a whole person, and now that his plan has failed, he orders Lucius Malfoy to capture Harry.  Lucius sics a Dementor on Harry, but Harry produces a Patronus, driving the Dementor away, and the Dementor sucks out Lucius' soul instead.  The other Death Eaters, fearing the Dementors even more than they fear Voldemort, abandon him en masse, and he is doomed to inhabit his tiny body for the rest of his days.

Life in the wizarding world returns to normal.  After graduation, Harry and Ginny become professional Quidditch players, Ron joins his brothers Fred and George as co-owner of their joke shop, and Hermione works for a while in the Ministry, where she sees to the improvement of the working conditions of House Elves.  When the Arithmancy Professor retires, Hermione, now satisfied that her work at the Ministry has achieved its objective, takes over the position, and upon your retirement, she takes over from you as Headmistress of Hogwarts.

Her parents are so proud of her that they boast about her exploits to whoever will listen to them.  Their stories spread too fast to be stopped by memory charms.  Eventually they reach a certain Muggle writer, who recounts them in a novel entitled "Albus Dumbledore and the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry".  After many rejections, her novel is finally published.  With the proceeds from her novel, she is able to buy a house.

If you are satisfied with this state of affairs, turn to Chapter 50.
