Albus Dumbledore And The Fateful Choices
In this choose-your-own adventure, you play the role of Albus Dumbledore, and you make choices that will have a profound effect on the wizarding world and on the personal lives of some of its main characters. Will Voldemort or Grindelwald win? Will they be stopped before they do too much damage? Or can they be persuaded to change their ways? Will Harry Potter survive and, if so, whom will he marry? You decide that despite the courage he has shown, Harry is still too young to be told that he must eventually either kill or be killed.
In his third year at Hogwarts, Harry once again shows his mettle. Sirius Black escapes from Azkaban, and the Ministry of Magic responds by surrounding Hogwarts with horrible creatures called Dementors despite your vehement protest. Everyone thinks that he was the one who betrayed Harry's parents and they fear that he now wants to kill Harry as well. Disguised as a dog he breaks into Hogwarts, but instead of going for Harry he goes for Ron, and Harry and Hermione follow to save their friend. It turns out that Sirius' real target is not Ron either; it is Peter Pettigrew, disguised as Ron's pet rat. With the help of Remus Lupin, an old friend of both Sirius and James Potter and the new Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor, he restores Peter to human form and extracts a confession from him. He and Remus want to kill Peter, but Harry intervenes to stop them from becoming murderers. Harry suggests that they hand Peter over to the Ministry to be taken to Azkaban instead, and they reluctantly agree. But their plan fails: the moon is now full and Lupin, a werewolf, forgets to take the potion that would render him harmless. He turns into his lupine form, Sirius has to fight him to protect the children, and Peter turns back into a rat, escapes and runs back to Voldemort. Meanwhile Snape, who always hated Sirius, captures him, locks him up and calls the Ministry to take him back to Azkaban.
From the children's account of those events, you now know that Sirius is innocent, but you have no way to convince anyone else; so instead you devise a plan for Harry and Hermione to help Sirius escape, which they do, after Harry first saves both himself and Sirius from an attack by a hundred Dementors by producing a Patronus, a piece of advanced magic he learned from Professor Lupin.
Once again you debate with yourself: should you now tell him about the prophecy or should you wait until he is older to avoid upsetting him at such a tender age?
