Tess Falcon; First Year At Hogwarts {Finished Book}

written by Faye Chuchoter

Nonoahohay Falcon was not a normal person. Normal people aren't born with a wizard for a dad and a mermaid for a mum, witches that get invited to a magical school, get a wand at a wizarding shop, have a godmother that can change her looks at will, can't talk to snakes or are related to the greatest known Dark wizard of all time. Nonoahohay (or Tess) has no idea of the challenges and hardships she will face as she goes through her first year at Hogwarts.

The Hogwarts Express

Chapter 5

I found an almost empty place, with only a small girl with twinkling purple eyes and pretty auburn hair.  She also had freckles sprinkled across her nose and was wearing a plain blue dress.  I asked, "Can we please sit with you?"  She looked around, startled, then nodded.

No sooner than we sat down someone slid open the compartment door.  "Um, hey, can I sit here?"  She gestured to a vacated spot.  The auburn-haired girl nodded again.  When the new girl sat down next to me she just pulled out a book and started to read.  Trying to start up a conversation, I asked, "What are you reading?"  She showed me the cover.  I read Tales of Beatle the Bard.  Then it was silent again.  I looked closer at the book-reader.  She was beautiful, had pure, flowing white-blond hair, and had big hazel eyes behind her golden glasses.

She saw me looking, well, staring at her and said, "Oh!  I forgot to introduce myself!  I'm Abigail Wright!  Who are you?"  I was the first one to speak.  "I'm Nonoahohay Falcon.  Because that name is to hard to remember and pronounce, everyone calls me Tess."  Ginny spoke up next. "I'm Ginevra Weasley.   No one calls me that; they all call me Ginny."  We all turned to the girl with purple eyes.

She spoke in a soft, quiet voice so we had to lean in to hear her.  "Sarah.  Sarah Reed."  We all told a bit about ourselves.  Abigail said she was half-veela, Ginny said she was the only girl in her family, Sarah said that she is unusually good with animals, and I told everyone I was adopted.  They all asked my former last name.  I couldn't remember, and I told them that.  I hope they believed me, because it was the truth.  I haven't heard that name in a long, long time.  We never talk about my parents.  Soon another person joined us.

We heard the door slide open, and we all stared at her.  She looked really sad with her tear-stained cheeks and her red, puffy eyes.  She looked at the ground while saying, "Can I sit with you?  If not, I can just find someone else."  We assured her that she can sit with us and that we want her to.

She sat at the corner by me, and I asked her what was wrong once everyone started to talk again.  She sighed and whispered, "No one wants me to sit with them because I'm what they call a mudblood.  I could tell it was rude, but then they started to tease me, looking in my suitcase for ideas."  I told her that some of the best are muggleborn, and she'll fit in OK, and that I'm practically a muggleborn because I was raised by muggles.  She cheered up a bit, and when an old lady pushing a cart full of snacks arrived and I bought some of everything and shared with her, she felt better.  Before I knew it, we had to go.  I heard a voice say, "Firs' years, this way!  All firs' years follow me!  Budge along there, an' don' push!  Firs' years, come on!"  I followed the voice with my four friends, and it lead to a giant of a man.
