Chapter Nine: A Magical Discovery

Chapter 9
“It worked, it worked!” I cheered. “Awesome idea, Anne!”
“Thanks, Kate! There’s the beehive! Turn!” We came up on the area.
“Where’d you hide it, Kate?” Anne asked. I walked over to the ivy on the boulder.
“Right behind here.” I replied, reaching under the ivy, pulling out the stone. Anne gasped.
“Wow, that is a good hiding spot! I bet I could fit behind there!” Anne exclaimed. I laughed. Anne slid behind the ivy. She was pretty well hidden.
“Wow, Anne! You’re practically hidden! Your hair is sticking out though.” Anne tucked her shoulder length brown hair in more.
“Perfect! Hey Anne, it’s like-” I stopped. “Hey, I wanna come in there!” I suddenly said. I brushed the ivy aside, and slid against the rock.
“Hi Anne!” I giggled. Anne laughed back. I leaned against the cool boulder.
“You still have the stone? You didn’t lose it?” Anne pressed.
“Jeez, Anne! That was one time!” I complained, still smiling.
“Well, finding this stone is definitely a once in a lifetime kind of thing. Too bad you lost- I mean we don’t have the other stone.” Anne corrected herself. I laughed. Then I fell backwards into the rock.
“Kate!” Anne grabbed my flailing arm as I sank into the rock. The rock felt like molasses more than rock now. We were both pulled in deeper. We were both screaming. Then we fell onto solid ground.
“Ow!” Anne complained. “What the heck was that? Where are we?” I looked around.
“Some kind of cave.” I mumbled, pulling myself up.
“I’m pretty sure caves have an opening.” Anne muttered. She got up. We looked around the “cave”.
“Well, we obviously aren’t getting back out this way.” I groaned, pushing on the once-again solid rock wall behind us. “Let’s go forward. Right now it’s the only direction.”
“So much for being quick.” Anne grumped. I looked at the ground. As far as I could see, it was dirt. Then something shiny caught my eye a few feet away.
“Hey, Anne.” I stared in wonder. “It’s the big stone.” Anne and I stared at the strawberry sized purple stone.
“How did it get in here? Wherever ‘here’ is?” Anne said in wonder.
“Yeah, ‘cause I dropped the stone.”
“The small one?”
“No, the other stone.” The cave started to shake as soon as I finished my sentence.
“It’s a cave in!” Anne shrieked. We held on tight to each other and shut our eyes. The shaking stopped. I kept my eyes shut. Anne, however, had opened hers.
“Kate. You need to take a good look at this.” Anne marveled. I slowly opened my eyes, once they got a glimpse of what I saw, they opened all the way, very, very, wide.
“Oh my god. Anne, I think we just made a discovery.” I gasped.
“More than a discovery. We found...we found magic!” Anne shouted. “Magic!”
