I ran outside. A woman was screaming and pointing at a figure moving in the forest. It was tall, more than ten feet, maybe twelve. It wasn’t facing us, but I didn’t need it to. It was at least a hundred yards away from us, but it would find us if this woman kept screaming.
“Shhhhhh!” I hissed. The woman stopped, then fainted. I looked around. Unther was coming out of his house (so it was him that lived in the Big House) looking around in confusion.
“Unther!” I tried not to yell that loud, but sometimes, I swear that man is half-deaf. I waved to him. He spotted me, then the unconscious woman at my knees. He ran over.
“What happened to her!” Unther yelled. I shushed him.
“Monster in the forest.” I said simply. His eyes widened as he saw the monstrous thing standing with it’s back to us in the forest. I thought Unther was going to faint too, or at least scream like a little girl.
“Don’t faint.” I pleaded. He turned white, then green, then purple, then back to normal.
“Okay.” He squeaked. Unther cleared his throat and said in a more stable voice, “We need to get everyone out of here. Maybe if we-”
“I know where we can go!” I exclaimed suddenly.
“Where?” Unther urged. “We need-”
“Gather everyone-I’ll help-then meet me at the Big House.”
“The what?”
“I mean, your house.” He looked wary. “Just trust me.” We went around gathering people, yelling at them to get out of their houses. I glanced back to see the monstrous thing moving farther away. I ran into my house.
“Mom! Dad! Marcus!” Eloise’s dad was sitting at the table. They all froze, and looked surprised.
“Oh, yes! You must be back from seeing Prismarine!” My mom said cheerily.
“No! Mom!” I yelled. “They-they’re back! We need to go!” My mom froze. My dad and Marcus looked confused. Then my dad gasped.
“Kate! Do you-do you mean…?” My dad whispered.
“If you’re talkin’ about the monsters, then YES! Now let’s go!” I pulled my mom out. My dad and Marcus followed, hurrying out of the hut.
“EVERYONE! OVER TO MY HUT NOW!” Unther yelled. Anne and her family ran out, her mom carrying Prismarine.
“Kate!” Anne shrieked over the yelling people running in a million directions. “What’s - OUCH! What’s happening?!”
“They! Are! Back!” I yelled over the screaming crowds. “EVERYONE SHUT UP!”
The crowd quieted.
“Go to Unther’s!” Everyone ran to Unther’s. “Okay!” I shouted, once everyone was there. “I need you all to follow me and Anne!” Everyone looked confused.
“Yes, yes! Follow the girl!” Unther yelled. I started to run in the forest, in the opposite side of where the monster was. No one followed.
“Wait, we’re going in the forest?” A woman complained.
“Yes! There is a safe place where they can’t find us!” I told them.
“Let’s climb up the cliff!” A man suggested. Everyone cheered.
“YOU IDIOTS!” A voice shrieked. We turned to see Anne, standing with her hands on her hips. “If you go up the impossible to climb, vertical cliff, YOU WILL DIE! Me and Kate know a safe place! Follow us, and you won’t die! Come on, you can’t be that stubborn!”
“All right, we'll come!” The man shouted. “But if I see that thing charging towards us, I’m running!”
“Fine!” Anne snapped. “Just, come on!” Anne and I led the people through the forest, which they really didn’t want to do. My mom really wanted to know how I knew it so well.
“Is it really a mystery?” I said at one point. “Connect the dots. The magic stones you told me about, me being gone all the time…” We approached the log and jumped over it.
“Welcome to the safe place!” I exclaimed. “Welcome...to the vault.”
