Unicorns have varying abilities, though none extend to popular Muggle beliefs, some of which even include elemental capabilities. Primarily, though, they are able to run extremely fast, as previously mentioned. Their horns are thought to contain powerful magic, though this has actually never been confirmed. As unicorns are so immensely difficult to catch, and as it would be very hard to expose possible magic in the horn, such has never been attempted.
Unicorn protection organisations have been established in order to ensure unicorns' safety in our magical world, to prevent poachers or such hunters from catching unicorns and using their magical blood, which can provide eternal life.
