I opened my eyes.
I was back in the forest, lying on the soft grass.
And everything felt almost the same, and I was somehow glad of it. But there was something about the forest around me that was different - as if the forest was welcoming me.
"Welcome home." Said a voice.
I turned my face to look into the sparkling eyes of Silvereye.
"Silvereye, I - what's happened? Did it work?"
Silvereye smiled a wolf smile. "Oh, it worked all right. The stone is gone. It split into a zillion pieces and floated into the sky."
It was then that a realised two things. Firstly, Silvereye's first words. Welcome home. I was... home?
Secondly, that I wasn't touching Silvereye. My hands were on the grass.
I was communicating without the bond touch.
It was then that I stood up.
And realised that I was a wolf.
A moon wolf.
Silvereye nuzzled me. "This is what I wanted more than anything."
I couldn't believe it. I was a moon wolf. But that only lasted a moment, and then suddenly everything seemed to slide into place.
Half wolf.
You are always going to be half wolf, no matter how hard you try to escape it.
Only now, you are free.
A family. This is your family.
"I'm home." The words had never sounded more beautiful.
