Always

written by Echo Jayden Hart

Sky Diggory. That's the name. Diggory? Like Cedric Diggory? Yep. I'm his little sister. Always falling into the background as my brother becomes more and more popular. Because of my sickly state when I got my letter at 11, I stayed at home, and mom and dad taught me to control my magical powers while Ced was away at Hogwarts. Only saw him again during the summer then he was gone again. Stories about school came to me by owl and I read them with jealously then sent a letter back. I loved my brother don't get me wrong but I was sick of him being in the center of attention while all I had was Bolt, my Patronus, an Irish Wolfhound, and our parents. I had 2 friends. My teachers didn't like me for some reason. Okay, I'll admit there is a reason. Livius and I were always casting spells while everyone was supposed to be studying. WE WERE STUDYING! Just not what the teachers wanted us to be studying in class. I was good to go to Hogwarts while Cedric was in his fifth year but what does life do? Throws another obstacle my way. Yay...

Chapter 8 (Trigger Warning)

Chapter 9
I turned around to see Cho Chang rushing towards me. Bitterness filled me. When I had last seen Cedric all he had talked about what Cho this and Cho that. The entire visit he had said three sentences to me. Hi Sky, You HAVE to meet Cho and See ya next time, squirt. Because of Cho, I had lost my older brother before he even died! To what? A girl that he met at school! He rarely saw me and before he met Cho he and I would talk for hours on end but after Cho came into his life We hadn’t talked longer than five minutes.
My eyes flashed, “What do you want?”
“I just wanted to say that I’m sorry about your brot- Woah. Do you know your eyes change colors?”
“Oh-no,” I heard Nova murmur.
“I know they do. And you want to know something else? The pain I felt when my brother died, wasn’t as bad as the pain I felt when he came home after meeting a certain CHo CHang. All he talked about was you, you, and more YOU! Do you know how painful it is to lose someone before they even die? He said three sentences that trip home to me. THREE! He didn’t even ask how his little sister was. The little sister that he used to talk for hours to when he came home. But that was BEFORE he met you. He wanted me to meet you. And the fact that the first thing you say to me when you have my attention is bringing my DEAD brother up, says a lot about you. And frankly, I’m disappointed in my brother for ever seeing anything in you. So if you want to talk to someone, choose someone else that isn’t me.”
Cho looked at me in shock before exclaiming, “DON’T YOU THINK HIS DEATH HURTS ME?”
“Nope, because you're crushing on Harry while mourning my brother’s death. Goodbye Cho.”
“WELL, IT DOES IT HURTS ME A LOT MORE THAN IT HURTS YOU!”
I tensed up at that, my eyes flashing. I knew they would be a dark stormy purple now. My hands were clenched fists now and my wand ready.
“What are you guys looking at? Go along now,” I heard Livius and Draco working together to try and get kids to stop watching. Some kids left while most stayed.
Cho began muttering a spell and before she could even finish it I had cast my own Defensive spell, protecting me and everyone around us. The spell Cho had cast did nothing and she yelled again, “I’VE BEEN MOURNING HIS DEATH SINCE HE PASSED. AND HERE YOU ARE JUST WALTZING IN HERE TO TAKE YOUR BROTHER’S PLACE AS IF IT’S NO BIG DEAL!”
“CHO, THAT IS ENOUGH!” I heard my cousin, Scott Diggory yell, pushing his way through the crowd that had gathered. “YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT SKY OR WHAT SHE HAS BEEN THROUGH!”
“AND YOU DO?” Cho yelled back.
Scott lost his patience which was a rare occurrence and something few people usually witness, “SHE NEARLY KILLED HERSELF TO BE WITH HER BROTHER OKAY? ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?”
Cho was shocked into a stunned silence.
“Maybe that will shut her up,” Draco muttered.
I closed my eyes as the flashbacks started. I felt myself stumble and my cousin's strong arms caught me before I hit the ground. I tried but I couldn’t snap out of it. I re-watched the memory of my parents telling me about Cedric’s death, the painful days after as I realized I would never see my brother again, and the memory of me ready to jump off a bridge before Scott found me and stopped me, bringing me safely home.
“We have got to get her out of here,” Nova said.
