Always

written by Echo Jayden Hart

Sky Diggory. That's the name. Diggory? Like Cedric Diggory? Yep. I'm his little sister. Always falling into the background as my brother becomes more and more popular. Because of my sickly state when I got my letter at 11, I stayed at home, and mom and dad taught me to control my magical powers while Ced was away at Hogwarts. Only saw him again during the summer then he was gone again. Stories about school came to me by owl and I read them with jealously then sent a letter back. I loved my brother don't get me wrong but I was sick of him being in the center of attention while all I had was Bolt, my Patronus, an Irish Wolfhound, and our parents. I had 2 friends. My teachers didn't like me for some reason. Okay, I'll admit there is a reason. Livius and I were always casting spells while everyone was supposed to be studying. WE WERE STUDYING! Just not what the teachers wanted us to be studying in class. I was good to go to Hogwarts while Cedric was in his fifth year but what does life do? Throws another obstacle my way. Yay...

Chapter 8
I took a deep breath and walked into the great hall with Nova, Livius, Black Lestrange, and Melanie Kinney. Scott and Melanie were both going to be first-year students and according to the test Nova, Livius, and I had taken earlier we were being placed in along with the fourth-year students. Luckily that meant that Luna, Harry, Ron, and Hermione will be in our classes. I couldn’t wait to see Harry again. He had visited Cedric during a summer break a couple of years back and was kind to me letting me know that if I ever came to Hogwarts he would be happy to help me out.
I remembered to keep my head held high and my eyes forwards as I walked with confidence into the great hall. We walked past all the other students and I let myself smile when I caught sight of Harry, Luna, Ron, and Hermione smiling and waving to Nova, Livius, and I. As we walked down the hall, students were whispering, probably betting on what houses we would be sorted into. When we reached the end of the hall where the professors sat, we lined up in front of the sorting hat.
The whole room went silent as the Headmistress Minerva McGonagall called our names, “Melanie Kinney.” Melanie stepped up and allowed the Sorting hat to be placed on her head.
“GRYFFINDOR,” The sorting hat announced. Cheers from the other Gryffindor students erupted around us as Melanie smiled and joined them at their table.
“Black Lestrange,” Headmistress McGonagall called.
Before the sorting hat was even placed on her head the hat announced, “SLYTHERIN!” Cheering from the other Slytherin students wasn’t as loud as the Gryffindor students but was still loud.
“Nova Everglen.” I watched my best friend take a step up and let the hat be placed on her.
“A loyal, patient, wise soul. Wise enough to make this decision, HUFFLEPUFF, RAVENCLAW!” The Hat said.
“Nova, which house would you like to be in?” McGonagall asked.
“Hufflepuff please.”
McGonagall nodded and said, “Sky Diggory.”
The whole room went silent. I knew everyone was thinking, did we hear that right? Diggory? I rolled my eyes and stepped forward. The Sorting Hat was placed on my head, “Hmmm… She is loyal, patient, true, unafraid, a hard worker, wise, has a ready mind, and is creative. RAVENCLAW, HUFFLEPUFF, GRYFFINDOR, SLYTHERIN!”
Whispers started up and I knew this was rare, like really rare. The headmasters and Headmistress’ looked at each other and nodded before McGonagall said, “Sky, you may choose what house you want to be sorted into since the sorting hat has said that you belong in all of the houses.”
I took a deep breath, “Hufflepuff.” The professors and heads smiled and nodded, pleased with my decision. Everyone clapped politely as the Hufflepuff students cheered. I stepped down and walked over to where Harry sat, giving him a hug before sitting down with him, Luna, Nova, Hermione, and Ron. I felt someone’s gaze on me as I sat there, waiting to see what house Livius would be sorted into. Glancing over my shoulder I saw Draco watching me and a girl sitting next to him, glaring at me. I shook my head, clearing it before turning my attention back to Livius.
“SLYTHERIN!”
Nova and I gasped. Neither of us would have thought that he would have fallen into that house. Never in a million years would we have guessed that. Even though Slytherin students were calling him over to sit with them he called over his shoulder, “Maybe later. I want to sit with my sister and Sky for tonight.”
He plopped down next to Ron and Dinner started. While we ate, Luna asked me to explain the Draco Train incident to everyone else. So that’s what I did with Nova and Livius adding to the story. When dinner was over, Nova and I met Susan Bones who said she would introduce us to other Hufflepuff students in our year and show us to our room. Lucky for Nova and I, we got to share a room which meant we didn’t have to face the anxiety of meeting roommates.
We were heading towards the Hufflepuff dorms when a voice called after me, “WAIT! Sky, can I talk to you?”
