Always

written by Echo Jayden Hart

Sky Diggory. That's the name. Diggory? Like Cedric Diggory? Yep. I'm his little sister. Always falling into the background as my brother becomes more and more popular. Because of my sickly state when I got my letter at 11, I stayed at home, and mom and dad taught me to control my magical powers while Ced was away at Hogwarts. Only saw him again during the summer then he was gone again. Stories about school came to me by owl and I read them with jealously then sent a letter back. I loved my brother don't get me wrong but I was sick of him being in the center of attention while all I had was Bolt, my Patronus, an Irish Wolfhound, and our parents. I had 2 friends. My teachers didn't like me for some reason. Okay, I'll admit there is a reason. Livius and I were always casting spells while everyone was supposed to be studying. WE WERE STUDYING! Just not what the teachers wanted us to be studying in class. I was good to go to Hogwarts while Cedric was in his fifth year but what does life do? Throws another obstacle my way. Yay...

Chapter 5
My head snapped to where the voice had come from. Standing in the doorway that we had just closed behind us, was Draco Malfoy. He had somehow gotten there without any of us noticing.
“HOW DID YOU GET THERE?!” Nova cried, a tad bit freaked.
“With my own feet,” He rolled his eyes, taking a step in and closing the door behind him. His eyes were focused on me. “How did you know?”
“Is it your business Malfoy? You just walked in and eavesdropped on us and that is none too polite. Plus I don’t have to tell you anything if I don’t want to,” I replied. I knew my face looked cold right now and I knew it wasn’t like me to act like this but something about this boy told me to guard my heart and head around him. I wasn’t acting anything like my Hufflepuff family and I knew that my parents would be shocked to see me acting like this.
“If it concerns me it is my business Diggory.”
“Don’t push her Malfoy,” Livius stood up.
I jumped up and grabbed onto his shoulder, “Don’t. I’ll tell him. You two are not going to fight. Got it?”
Livius sighed, “Yes ma’am.” I could tell he was rolling his eyes but ignored it for now.
“We won’t fight,” Draco said.
“Then sit. Both of you,” I told them, sitting back down next to Nova, pulling Livius back down next to me. “Over the years I have been able to sense what a person is like and see through their wall. When I saw you I immediately saw the real you and not the act you put on for everyone. And how curious you were about us.”
“And you can do this for everyone?” Draco asked.
I felt Livius tense up beside me. I knew he was protective of me because his family and mine are close and ever since Ced died he’s been watching out for me more.
“Yes. Why?”
“If I asked would you tell me what Pansy is like under her skin?”
“Pansy?” I raised an eyebrow and Nova took my files out of my hand and flipped through it.
“The girl I was sitting with.”
“I could but I don’t do these things. I don’t want to rip friendships apart. You can do that on your own.” Suddenly I started coughing.
“Are you okay?” Draco asked, standing up.
“She’s fine,” Livius snapped.
“Are you blind? She’s in the middle of a coughing fit!” Draco exclaimed.
I regained my composure and said, “He’s right. I’m fine.”
Nova spoke up, “I think you got what you wanted Malfoy. You can leave now.”
“But-”
“No buts. We need to talk without you eavesdropping on our conversation,” Livius replied coolly. “Go back to your friends.”
I had been staring out the window while they were talking but felt Draco’s eyes on me before he stood up and left.
“Maybe we should lock the door,” Nova said.
“If he’s a fourth-year student he’ll be able to cast a spell and open it no problem, “Livius reminded his sister. Like his sister, he had purple eyes, but like his younger brother a second-year student Livius had short cute messy black hair with a blue streak in it. He was 6 foot and has been working out a bit while working with stones over the summer, lifting them and placing them down on the ground to make stone pathways. In other words, he had muscle unlike most of the guys we have passed on the train.
“But Sky what happened? I thought you were healthy and good to come with us,” Nova cried.
“I am. But I’m still prone to coughing fits sometimes. Especially when I forget to take my medicine. I packed it last night and forgot to take my dose today.”
“Well then take it silly!” Livius exclaimed.
I laughed and reached into my book bag where I had placed my medicine before I left home. I took my pill and then we continued looking through the folder that my parents had given me. Together we decided to try and befriend Ron Weasley, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Luna Lovegood. I slowly began to drift off to the sound of my friends chatting excitedly about the day to come.
