Always

written by Echo Jayden Hart

Sky Diggory. That's the name. Diggory? Like Cedric Diggory? Yep. I'm his little sister. Always falling into the background as my brother becomes more and more popular. Because of my sickly state when I got my letter at 11, I stayed at home, and mom and dad taught me to control my magical powers while Ced was away at Hogwarts. Only saw him again during the summer then he was gone again. Stories about school came to me by owl and I read them with jealously then sent a letter back. I loved my brother don't get me wrong but I was sick of him being in the center of attention while all I had was Bolt, my Patronus, an Irish Wolfhound, and our parents. I had 2 friends. My teachers didn't like me for some reason. Okay, I'll admit there is a reason. Livius and I were always casting spells while everyone was supposed to be studying. WE WERE STUDYING! Just not what the teachers wanted us to be studying in class. I was good to go to Hogwarts while Cedric was in his fifth year but what does life do? Throws another obstacle my way. Yay...

My jaw dropped when I noticed the owl sitting on the ledge of my window sill. It was here! I was finally going to go to Hogwarts! I thanked the owl and ran downstairs to the den where both my parents were sitting on the couch. Father was reading and Mother was writing.
“MOTHER! FATHER! I GOT IT!” I cried.
“Slow down Sky. What did you get?” Father asked, placing his book down.
“My Hogwarts letter!”
Mother dropped her pencil and her head snapped up, “You mean not all the records were destroyed?”
Father took the letter out of my hand and read it, “Apparently there were a couple of records that had been misplaced and 4 other kids will be going with Sky to Hogwarts. They have all had training and lessons at home so will be taking a test to see what year they belong in once they are sorted into their houses.”
“Sky! That’s amazing!” Mom exclaimed.
“Can I go?”
“Yes you can unless you want us to baby you for another year,” Dad responded.
“NO!” I cried.
Dad glanced up in surprise, “Why not?”
I sighed, “You won’t be able to teach me too much more. You and mom both have your own duties and responsibilities to attend to. I’m old enough to go on my own now.”
“Okay, oka-”
The doorbell rang cutting him off mid-sentence.
“I wonder who that could be,” Mom said, standing up to get the door. Bolt wandered into the living room and lay down at my feet as I re-read the letter again.
“SKY! YOU WON’T GUESS WHAT I JUST GOT!” Nova cried, running into the living room, waving a piece of paper in her hand.
“DID YOU GET A LETTER TOO?” I cried, jumping up off of the couch
“YES! WAIT YOU GOT ONE? YAY! WE CAN GO TOGETHER!” Nova squealed, hugging me.
Dad laughed, “You girls will be just fine on your own.”
“You bet, Mr. D!” Nova exclaimed.
“You girls better pack up tonight if you’re so eager to go. We can get you on the first train tomorrow,” Mom smiled.
“What should we pack?” I asked.
“Three Sets of Black Plain Work Robes, One Plain Black Pointed Hat for day wear, One Pair of Protective dragon hide Gloves, One Black Winter Cloak, all the books that I have given you, your wands, your cauldrons, your set of crystal vials, your telescope, your set of brass scales and your Patrons will go with you,” Dad told us. “You can also bring some regular clothes and your pajamas as well as any other personal hygiene items like shampoo and soap. You will be living in dorms so I suggest bringing some pictures or statues to place around your dorm room to make it feel more like home.”
“Thanks, Dad,” I said, hugging him.
Two hours later, I had everything I needed to be packed except for my robes. I didn’t own any so dad said he will contact the school about that while I pack. He did and they said it was no problem. I had to dress nicely tomorrow though when I meet everyone in the great hall and get sorted into my house. Nova and I will catch the first train there tomorrow morning and both of our mothers said that they would contact our school about the change. I smiled to myself as I thought about how happy my teachers would be to hear that I won’t be there to disrupt their classes.
I said goodnight to Mom and Dad before climbing under my covers, making a mental note to bring my blankets with me in the morning and my pillow too. It took me a while to calm down before I could fall asleep. My dreams were full of what adventures I could encounter tomorrow with Nova.
