The Youngest Weasley

written by Lizzie Scamander

This is my first fanfic, so don't expect it to be great - I know I won't grasp the character as well as J.K Rowling, obviously, but I just wanted to see what it would be like writing from a Harry Potter character's perspective, and I chose Ginny. By the way, this has no romance, or anything like that, because I don't write that sort of stuff - sorry! Anyway, if you're interested, just go to the first chapter and start reading. And by the way, this is in progress.

Being the Youngest Problems

Chapter 1

Ginny watched the train gather speed as it billowed smoke and steam everywhere, standing on tiptoes to see her brothers better. The train was going faster and faster, there was the blast of a whistle and then it had rounded the bend and vanished from sight. She sank back down to her heels and looked resentfully at her mother.

"It's not fair," she said bitterly. "Mum -"

"'Hate' is a strong word," Mrs. Weasley said, taking her daughter by the hand and leading her across the platform and over to the brick barrier. "And I don't want you overusing it. Come through now." Ginny felt herself being steered through apparent nothingness as her mother promptly stepped into the brick and then a soft breeze on her face as they arrived onto the space between platforms nine and ten.

"Come along now, dear," Mrs. Weasley said briskly. Ginny felt a stirring of resentment inside her. Did she really have to wait another whole year before she went to Hogwarts? Her mother led her out of the station, onto the street, and looked around for a taxi. "Keep a look out, Ginny," she said.

Ginny folded her arms and tossed her long mane of red hair defiantly.

"Well, did you see Harry Potter?" Mrs. Weasley said absently as she peered between two cars driving past.

Ginny nodded. She had seen the boy all right - with his lightning-shaped scar, the very Harry Potter himself! Except she did not say this aloud, she was too busy giving her mother the silent treatment.

"The very one who survived the Killing Curse," Mrs. Weasley added. "Oh, look!" She pointed at a taxi nearby, waved her hand, and hurried over, dragging Ginny by the hand.

"Here we are," she said, opening the car door. "Hop in."

Ginny, wrestling her hand from her mother's grip, plonked into the back seat and maintained a surly silence all the time her mother gave the driver address instructions, hopped in herself, and it was ten minutes into the drive. Finally, however, she said,
