Interview with Professor Draekon, New Potions Professor (interview)

Chapter 13

Interview with Professor Draekon, New Potions Professor

A wonderful interview with the new HiH Potions Professor, Professor Draekon.

Hornetius: How did you get to know about Hogwarts is Here? What made you think you had the potential to be a potions professor?

Professor: I came into contact with Hogwarts is Here when looking for a website that provided the academic aspect of the Harry Potter universe. I have always been an inquisitive person that used my free time to study and grow as an individual, and my pursuits brought me here. This is, incidentally, the same reason why I believed I had the potential to apply in order to be a Potions Professor - as I know the content for Potions, both from the magical standpoint as well as from the mundane, chemical one.

Hornetius: What Experience do you have with Potions? There was even History of Magic there. Why choose Potions?

Professor: As detailed in my background, I am a CEO for a company that provides scientific - and usually chemical - solutions to common problems in the Wizarding World, so Potions was a natural choice for me. I have no strong background in History of Magic; furthermore, since I spent my years of magical education in Mahoutokoro, I certainly studied History of Magic via a different standpoint than what we commonly see in the Western world. For that reason, applying for Potions was definitely more viable. I'd be happy to leave History of Magic in the competent hands of Professor Otterly.

Me: Which Prefect of Potions is suitable to become a Co-professor if you wished to hire one?

Professor: I arrive at such a decision, an application would be created in order to ensure the procedure is as fair as possible. I do not want to decide based on pre existing biases.

Hornetius: How did you really feel when you were told you were now the Potions Professor of such a large Harry Potter fan site?

Hornetius: How did you really feel when you were told you were now the Potions Professor of such a large Harry Potter fan site?

Professor: It was a wonderful experience, really. Hogwarts is Here has a marvelous community that I am happy to take part in, and to hear that my application was selected gave me a sense of pride and responsibility towards this community. I strive to be able to allow others to grow and learn by teaching them what I know, as well as giving them the tools to critically pursue their own interests.

Hornetius: How would you react if a student asks you to teach a subject in another magical school? Will you teach there or not?

Professor: Certainly Not, I'd solely decline and say I have no interest.

Hornetius: Which is your favourite Harry Potter book yet till now?

Professor: I personally enjoy Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, because that book deals with certain complex elements in the development of the characters. Although I certainly enjoy the first books as well, it's undeniable they are disjointed from a deeper consideration - they usually orbit around a "problem, then solve problem" format that does not allow deeper reflections on morals and humanity. The Half-Blood Prince, on the other hand, deeply delves into character motivations and background, making it an overall amazing experience.

Hornetius: 'Potions is a wonderful subject'' Which Potion is your most favourite and least favourite till now and why?

Professor: I certainly have a strong preference for Felix Felicis, due to its brewing complexity, its ingredients and its effects - especially given how this is a potion that (seemingly) affects the external world rather than the drinker. We will study this more in-depth by the end of Year Five. It's hard to choose a least favorite potion - however, if I were hard-pressed to select one, the Blemish-Removal Cream is not as engaging as most of the potions we have in the Wizarding World.

Hornetius: How do you plan to prepare the students for the further years of Hogwarts Potions?

Professor: This will be done by giving students the chance to critically think about Potions and their assignments. I intend to provide tasks that will allow them to answer in multiple ways, based on their personal interests, while still assessing their knowledge of the fundamentals and their creativity in understanding scientific patterns. Hopefully Year Five shall be released soon, and all students will then have a sneak peek on my educational approach.

Hornetius: If you could become a professor for one another subject, what would it be?

Professor: If I could create a new course, then I would like to write a course on the scientific fundamentals of magic. However, if I cannot create a new course, then I do not feel like I need to become a professor for another subject - we have more than qualified educators that fill in all existing courses in Hogwarts Is Here.

Hornetius: Which Harry Potter character do you think will suit you and will least likely suit you and why?

Professor: I believe I am most similar to Remus Lupin - dedicated, engaged, willing to provide meaningful instruction to students. The character that least suits me is likely Crabbe or Goyle - I perceive both of them to be disengaged, disinterested and mean, which are three characteristics that certainly do not apply to me.
