Thank Dumbledore!

The day of their departure arrived far too quickly in Tiberius's opinion. He still didn't really want Maya to come - he was afraid his parents would be terribly inhospitable to her (even though his mother had given her consent in the next letter she sent) and Brutus didn't bother him too much about it. All in all, he found himself at Hogsmeade Station on the 21st lugging his trunk behind him and following Maya onto the train. They found an empty compartment and settled down for the journey, Maya beaming and Tiberius feeling uncertain.

Only once did Brutus come into the compartment to jeer, and it was only a short while he was in there. Tiberius was so threatening to hex him and Maya so good at ignoring him that he left soon. The rest of the journey was relatively peaceful, even though Tiberius felt very worried at how his parents would receive Maya.

As the train puffed to a halt on Platform 9¾ Tiberius's nervousness increased. He peered out the window, searching for his parents, and promptly saw his mother, her haughty frame visible between the other parents hurrying here and there, standing loftily nearby. He followed Maya out of the compartment, down the corridor, and through a door. Lugging their trunks, they approached Mrs. Nott.

"Hi mother," Tiberius said, with an awkward glance at Maya.

Maya grinned. "Nice to meet vou," she said warmly.

Mrs. Nott raised her eyebrows, and Tiberius knew she was regarding this Bulgarian girl judgementally. Then, finally, she said, "You must be this Maya Krum Tiberius is going on about." She paused, and then continued, "come along now, we don't want to catch the Muggle traffic. Oh, and there's Brutus." Brutus had emerged from the train, and strode up to them.

"How's your girlfriend?" He spat at Tiberius contemptuously, before going to walk with his mother.

Maya hesitated, frowning at Brutus's words, then, smiling at Tiberius, she followed Mrs. Nott and Brutus toward the brick barrier. Tiberius paused a little longer. His mother could have been a bit more friendly, but at least she hadn't been rude. But then he remembered he hadn't asked Maya if she was a Pure-blood or not.

"Um, Maya," he said awkwardly, hurrying to catch up to her. He wondered how to put this strange question. "Er - are you Pure-blood?"

Maya looked at him for a moment. Then, her eyes narrowing, she said, "You aren't one of those racist people, are you? You know, against Muggle-borns and things?"

"No!" Tiberius said hastily. "It's just - I was curious."

"Well, I'm a half-blood," Maya replied. "But that doesn't matter in the least," she added.

"Of course not," Tiberius replied quickly.

They proceeded through the barrier, out onto the street and into the car. Maya still seemed (in Tiberius's opinion) unwisely cheerful, even with Brutus sitting in the front sneering at them from time to time. Tiberius bit his lip. He sincerely hoped his father wasn't at home. They could delay Maya's meeting him for a little bit. Then he remembered how his father was busy in the society that his mother had talked about, and he felt relieved.

"Thank Dumbledore," he muttered under his breath.
