Rae sat there against the wall staring blankly. Her Short brown hair pressed against the wall. Her green eyes shined in the sunlight coming through a window in her room. The walls she was staring at were a dark purple and covered with posters from various concerts and Broadway shows.
Her cat, Bob, walked over and rubbed himself on her leg.
“Not now, I'll play with you later” Rae said. Bob walked away and ate some kibble.
Rae had school that morning and she didn’t want to go out into the bustling streets of L.A and get pushed around. But, she had too. She was dreading this day, the first day of High school in a new city.
Her mom called her down for breakfast and said dad wouldn’t be able to drive her into school every morning like he used to, due to work. Rae was fine with this, as she enjoyed the time spent with her dad, but also felt like it was embarrassing to have your dad drive you into school every day.
After breakfast Rae got dressed and brushed her teeth. She grabbed her backpack, filling it with binders, paper holders, and her computer.
She said goodbye to her mom and walked out the door to catch a bus.
She got to school safely, but had to deal with older kids on the bus. She knew no one in her new school, no one.
She walked into her new school, it was huge. Kids were bustling around, getting to their classes. Rae walked down the halls, trying to not be seen. Her fashion wasn’t the best, and she didn’t want anyone to bully her for it.
As she walked into her first class, there were a couple girls that looked nice, so she walked over to sit next to them.
“Hey, we're saving that seat for someone” One of the girls said. The girl who said it had long blonde hair, in messy buns. Her name was Veronica, Rae saw her name on her backpack. She had green eyes, and was wearing a purple romper.
The other girls both had brown hair, one of them had it in a ponytail, whereas the other had it down.
“Oh, sorry” Rae said. She walked over somewhere else and sat down.
“I like your hair, very modern, very fresh. But the wedge look is more 70s, don’t you think Vanessa?” Veronica said. The girl with her hair in ponytails shook her head yes.
“Uh, thx I guess” Rae said, unsure if it was a complement or a rude remark.
She read the directions on the whiteboard.

Rae pulled out her book, a Tale of Two Cities, and began reading. She noticed that Veronica was looking at her phone, and so was Vanessa and the other girl.
“Um, the directions on the board are to read,” Rae said, nervously. “We know, we’re not blind” The girl with her hair down said.
Rae put her head back into her book.
“You don’t seem familiar,” Veronica said. “No, my family just moved here from San Francisco. We live a couple minutes from here” Rae said, looking up from her book.
“Then why do you ride the bus?” The girl with her hair down asked. “Violet! Don’t be so critical!” Veronica said. “Sorry Veronica,” Violet said.
“Wow, all your names start with V!” Rae said. “Very observant!” Veronica said. “The person who im saving this seat for isn’t here, so I guess you can sit here”
“Oh, ok, thanks.” Rae said. She moved her things and sat down next to Violet.
“Those clothes don’t go together at all!” Veronica said. “I kinda like-” Violet said. “Shut up Violet!” Veronica said. Rae had on a blue sweatshirt, pink sweatpants (They match with her hair), and purple shoes, it really didn’t go together at all.
Rae started humming a song from one of her favorite musicals, Heathers The Musical.
The teacher came in and gave them directions of what they need to do for homework. It was the same for all Rae’s classes.
She also noticed that The V’s (Veronica, Vanessa, and Violet) were in all her classes.
