Valerian Root and Springs

Climate:

• Native to Europe and parts of Asia
• Migrated to North America
• very strong acidic soil (4.5-5.0 pH)
• Requires 7 hrs of sunlight

Appearance:

• Forms Bunches of White Flowers
• Can grow to be 5 ft tall

Properties:

• Harvested in Spring and Fall
• Seed should be planted 1/8 inch down into the soil
• Strong Smelling Springs (a mix of Cherry and Vanilla)
• Sedative powers
• Roots are Anxiolytic - therefore used in calming and sleeping potions
• Very attractive to cats (like Catnip)

• Forgetfulness Potion
• Calming and Sleeping Potions
• Sprigs used in Perfumes
• Root used in Eastern European weddings (Groom wears it to ward off envious elves)
