Terrence
Chapter 1
Terrence, a squire, brushed the horses mane gently. It was a fine steed, a pure white horse. It snorted, and shook his head slightly.
"Whoa, whoa, boy," Terrence said, smiling.
"Done?"
Terrence jumped as someone came into the barn. It was Sir Theodore. "Oh, sir! Yes, I've just finished. He is a fine horse, sir."
The knight smiled, and asked, "Ever wondered how it is being a knight?"
"Oh yes sir. Lots of times," said Terrence. "I've always wanted to be one." He patted the horse again.
"Anyway, I must be going," said Sir Theodore. "The king wants me to go in search of.." he quickly stopped speaking.
"What, sir?" asked Terrence curiously.
"This does not involve...you," said Sir Theodore curtly, then turned and strode out of the barn.
Terrence started to think. What was Sir Theodore looking for? He was only a squire, but Terrence could not help being curious.

One hour later, Terrence was in his house. He sat at the table, still thinking about Sir Theodore. Suddenly there was a knock on the door, and Terrence got up to answer it. He flung open the door, and there stood Matilda, his best friend.
"What are you doing here?" Terrence asked.
"Shh!" Matilda said. "I have to tell you something, without anyone being here. If you would just come with me.. Wait!"
Terrence's older brother, Timothy, who was already a knight, walked into view. "What is Matilda doing here?" He asked.
"Uh... we.." started Terrence, but Matilda hastily said, "I was just about to go." Then she whispered to Terrence. You'll find a letter by your front door," then she ran quickly out of the house.
"Good," said Timothy. "Now Terrence, I want you to groom my horse, right now! And no mucking around, OK?"
"What?! That's not fair! I just groomed Sir Theodore's horse," said Terrence, but he did actually like being around the horses.
"Yes, you'll do it, and without complaining! I'm a knight, and you should do whatever I tell you to do!" Timothy chuckled quietly to himself, then walked out of the house.
"Acting like I'm a slave!" Terrence muttered angrily. "Why can't he just get one of the slaves to do it? I mean, I like doing it, but still! He probably wants to just boss me around." Terrence sighed, then walked out of the house, heading towards the barns.
