J.K. Rowling: A History

JK Rowling, as we all know, is a very successful author. She is mostly known for writing the Harry Potter books. But this isn’t just about her work on Harry Potter, this is about her overall work and life.
Rowling was born on July 31, 1965, in Chipping Sodbury, near Bristol, England. She grew up in Tutshill, Gloucestershire, and was schooled in Wyedean Comprehensive. She earned a degree in French and Classics at the University of Exeter. She worked at Amnesty International in London. The original idea for Harry Potter came to her on a train that was delayed for four hours in 1990.
She moved to Portugal to teach English in 1990. She married Jorge Arantes in October 1992. They had her first child, Jessica in 1993. The marriage ended in divorce and Rowling moved to Edinburgh, Scotland. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (British version) (American version: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) was first published in the United Kingdom in 1997. She married Dr. Neil Murray in 2001. She had a second child, David, in 2003, and a third, Mackenzie, in January 2005.

Fun Facts about Minerva McGonagall

In this article, we are going to tell you a bunch of fun facts about the fair, strict Hogwarts professor, Minerva McGonagall. This will sort of serve as a biography, though it does not contain everything about McGonagall, it does give you some fun facts about her! Without further ado, let’s get on with the facts!

1. Minerva McGonagall was a wonderful quidditch player in her time at Hogwarts, but she had a nasty fall in her last year at Hogwarts. This left her with a concussion and some broken ribs. Ouch!

2. Ever wonder if she fell in love with someone? Well, after she graduated from Hogwarts, she fell in love with a muggle boy named Dougal McGregor.

3. Dougal McGregor proposed to Minerva. She wanted to accept but she declined in the fear of revealing that she was a witch unless they had kids. Plus, if she broke the International Statute of Secrecy, she would lose the Ministry's job that she was giving him up.

4. Minerva McGonagall left London 3 days after that and she was heartbroken and hating her new life.

5. Minerva ended up marrying her old Ministry boss, named Elphinstone Urquart, who had proposed several times before she accepted.

6. Sadly, her husband had an accidental death by a Venomous Tentacula bite after three years of their marriage. Minerva always kept her maiden name, so she always went by McGonagall.
Those are all the facts today! Hope you learned a lot about Minerva McGonagall!

People at Hogwarts

New Student:
Any child living in the UK can be admitted to Hogwarts if they show signs of magic. Magic is always inherited, normally from the parents but sometimes from a distant magical or Squib ancestor.
The actual admittance entry is administered by the mysterious Quill of Acceptance and Book of Admittance[1] . Placed by the Founders themselves, the Book and Quill record the names of every magical child in the country. Whilst the Quill is attuned to the faintest hints of magic, the Book only allows it to write on it if the magic demonstrated is sufficiently impressive.
Once the name is entered in the Book and the child approaches the admittance age, the Deputy Head sends an automated letter out to the student inviting them to the school. Muggleborns will normally have their letters delivered by a Hogwarts professor, who explains the magical world to them and their guardians.
On the morning of the start of term, the new student goes to King's Cross, gets on the Hogwarts Express, and goes to Hogwarts.
The Book and Quill have a perfect record of keeping out Squibs - however one Squib did manage to get as far as the Sorting Hat before being found out.
Current student:
Current students go to Platform 9 & 3/4 and get on the Hogwarts Express at the right time. Those who miss the train are advised not to try to travel to school on flying Ford Anglia.
Teacher:
Teachers normally Apparate to Hogsmeade and then walk to school. When Professor McGonagall lived with her husband in Hogsmeade, she undertook this journey daily.
Visitor:
Visitors are met at the gates and normally admitted by a teacher. Tonks had to have Snape let her in when she discovered Harry on the Express. Supposedly teachers can travel in and out unaccompanied: Snape used his wand to tap “the padlock once so that the chains snaked backward and the gates creaked open” (Half-Blood Prince).

FUN FACT!

Did you know that Fred and George Weasley were born on April Fool’s Day?! I know, it’s a clever thing on J.K. Rowing’s part, because as you know, April Fool’s Day is the day of jokes, and who are our two favorite jokesters? Yep, Fred and George! Their birthday implies that they are the funniest in the room! Fred was born first, but they’re twins so I expect it doesn’t really matter! Now you know that your favorite mischievous trickster pair were born on April Fool’s Day!!
