Chapter 5
Izuku pulls on one of the ropes holding the sail. It falls down, and the wind lash back is fierce enough that Izuku chucks forward.
He sits up, laughing. “I can do this. There’s more fish beyond the reef.” He stares out at the reef. “There’s more beyond the reef.” He gathers the rope in his hand and pulls, the canoe starting forward again.
After a bit, Izuku’s canoe sails over the little waves representing the reef. “Not so bad.” He chuckles as some waves hit the boat.
Then everything went wrong. The wind picked up, blowing the sail anyway it could go. A bigger wave crashed across the deck, and Izuku sat up, but he noticed the small red pig in the water. “Eiji!”
He tried to make it to his friend, but a giant wave crashed over his boat, knocking it over. Izuku was pushed under, and a couple strong waves kept him down.
The moment he could, he tried swimming for the surface, but his foot had gotten stuck in some coral. He tried to break it free, but it was stuck fast. He reached a hand out, grabbing for the nearest heavy thing. His hand clasped around a rock, which he used to break the coral. He swam up, and started gasping for air.

After a lot of struggling, he and Eijirou managed to make it back to the beach alive. He crawled forward, gasping for air, feeling his lungs burning.
Eijirou climbed over the hull of the boat, and flopped into the sand. He noticed the oar in front of him, squeaked, and ran off. Izuku watched him, before swinging his foot around to inspect his ankle.
It was red where the coral had grabbed him, but it wasn’t horrible. It hurt, but it would heal soon.
“Whatever just happened...blame it on the pig.” Izuku snapped his head around, finally spotting his grandfather coming towards him.
“Grandpa…” Izuku said, standing up, trying to hide his ankle. Torino used his cane to swipe Izuku’s foot from behind his leg, and inspected it. “Are you gonna tell Dad?” Izuku asked, waiting for the worst.
Torino looked at him with a smile. “I’m his dad. I don’t have to tell him anything.” He let go of Izuku’s foot, and he steadied himself. He looks out across the water again.
“He was right. About going out there.” Izuku turned and stared up at the mountain. “It’s time I put my stone on the mountain.”
There was a moment of silence, before Torino shrugged and stabbed his cane into the sand. “Okay. Well, head on back. Put that stone up there.” He waddled forward into the water, dancing with the manta rays that were swimming there.
Izuku stepped forward but turned back to his grandfather. “Why aren’t you trying to talk me out of it?”
“You said that’s what you wanted.”
Izuku walked forward a bit more, but Torino’s voice stopped him. “When I die, I’m gonna come back as one of these.” He spreads his arms around the rays. “Or I chose the wrong tattoo.”
“Why are you acting weird?” Izuku asked
“I’m the village crazy guy. It’s my job.” He said, looking at Izuku sternly. Izuku watched him before sighing.
“If there’s something you want to tell me, tell me.”
Torino turns to him, his face getting slightly crazy. “Is there something you want to hear?”

Izuku was following Torino up a path, helping his elderly grandfather up the difficult path. “You’ve been told all our people’s stories, but one.” He walked forward, leaving Izuku with the torch.
“What is this place?” He asked, raising the torch. Torino laughed, pulling back a curtain of vines as he spoke. “Do you really think our ancestors stayed within the reef?”
Izuku pushed some of the rocks blocking the cave down, revealing a hidden path. “What’s in there?” Izuku asked, turning to his grandfather.
“The answer to the question you keep asking yourself. Who are you meant to be?” He hands him the torch, and Izuku heads in, Torino’s instructions ringing in his ears. “Go inside. Bang the drum. And find out.”

Izuku walks down the path, and when he reaches the end, his jaw drops. It’s a giant cavern hidden by a waterfall, but on Izuku’s side, there were tons of boats, boats bigger than he’d ever seen. Every boat together could hold the entire village.
He walked between them, admiring the sails and the designs. He ran a hand along the side of one, and he looked up at the biggest one. He climbed it, having set the torch down in the sand. Once he was standing on the deck, he noticed the drum. “Bang the drum.” He repeated.
He grabbed the two sticks resting on top and gave the drum a light bang. An echo sounded, a triple hit. Izuku exhaled, and repeated it.
The torches next to him flared to life, and he held one of the sticks like a weapon, dropping the other. He turned, and noticed the sail, a giant boat leading smaller ones. He continued to stare at it, but when he blinked, he saw something...fascinating.
