Chapter 2
Toshi carried Izuku into the village, starting to sing.
"Izu, make way, make way!
Izuku, it’s time you knew,
The village of Motunui is all you need"
Toshi, Inko, Izuku and a couple villagers are dancing in the fields.
"The dancers are practicing
They dance to an ancient song
(Who needs a new song? This old one’s all we need)"
Izuku attempts to run to the sea, but he’s stopped by three village elders with flower leis, and they throw them around Izuku’s neck.

They are now with a new batch of villagers as they weave baskets together, but Izuku holds up a boat proudly.
"This tradition is our mission
And Izuku, there’s so much to do (Make way)"
Izuku is walking by a couple of roosters, when a yellow and black one tripped over a rock, and Izuku helped him up.
"Don’t trip on the tarp root, that’s all you need
We share everything we make (We make)
We joke and we weave our baskets (Aha!)"
Izuku runs down to the beach, the fishermen having just returned from another trip, Toshi running after him.
"The fishermen come back from the sea
I wanna see"
Toshi swipes him up, and puts down a slightly older Izuku, this time in a building.
"Don’t walk away
Izu, stay on the ground now
Our people will need a chief and there you are"
Inko and Toshi reveal a small headdress similar to the one Toshi wears, along with an unfinished piece of green fabric, and Izuku gives a slight groan.

Izuku attempts to paddle away, with a red pig in the front of his canoe, looking back.
"There comes a day"
Toshi comes by and picks Izuku up, turning and walking away. Izuku sighs and watches his pig walk forward, the oar in his mouth, seat and cock his head.
"When you’re gonna look around
And realize happiness is where you are"
Toshi slides down from the top of a tree, holding a coconut.
"Consider the coconut! (The what?)
Consider its tree
We use each part of the coconut, that’s all we need"
A coconut falls and Inko catches it, cutting off the top of it, as a couple villagers wave nets behind her.
"We make our nets from the fibers"
Izuku pours some of the water into his pig, Eijirou’s, mouth as a couple other kids drink.
"The water’s sweet inside"
Inko and Izuku sit by a light fire, bundles of leaves on top.
"We use the leaves to build fires"
The yellow chicken, Denki, walks over and sits on the fire. Izuku picks him up and puts him on the ground and he walks away.
"We cook up the meat inside
Consider the coconuts
The trunks and the leaves
The island gives us what we need"
Izuku puts the headdress on, the green fabric still wrapped around the pole, still unfinished.
"And no one leaves
That’s right we stay"
Toshi pulls back a flap, revealing the whole village waiting for them to come walking down the aisle.
"We’re safe and we’re well provided
And when we look to the future
There you are"
Izuku notices his grandfather dancing by the sea, walking with his parents.
"You’ll be okay
In time you’ll learn just as I did
You must find happiness right where you are"
Inko and Toshi look down, noticing Izuku is gone. Izuku ran down to his grandfather, the headdress gone. Torino looked over, and moved over, allowing his grandson to dance beside him.
"I like to dance with the water
The undertow and the waves
The water is mischievous, ha!
I like how it misbehaves
The village may think I’m crazy,
Or say that I drift too far
But once you know what you like, well, there you are"

Izuku ages, he’s now a teenager around fourteen or fifteen. He’s wearing pants with a red band around his waist and ankles, a red and green band on his upper forearm. Torino dances beside him, still singing.
"You are your father’s son,
Stubbornness and pride
Mind what he says but remember
You may hear a voice inside"
Torino and Izuku walk down the beach, until they reach some leaves.
"And if that voice starts to whisper
To follow the farthest star
Izu, that voice inside is who you are"
Torino pulls the leaves back, revealing a group of boats. Izuku’s eyes light up and he walks towards them, but his father steps in front of him, crossing his arms.
“Dad! I was only looking at the boats. I wasn’t gonna get on them.” Izuku says, unbelievably. Toshi glared at his father, who waved his cane jokingly. Toshi puts an arm around Izuku’s shoulders. “Come, there’s something I want to show you.”
He leads Izuku up one of the farther mountains of the island, talking beside him. “I wanted to bring you here from the moment you opened your eyes.”
They walk onto a place where a stack of stones sit, the older ones covered in moss and on the bottom. Izuku runs his hand over them.
“This is a sacred place. The place of chiefs. There will come a time when you will stand on this peak and place a stone on this mountain. Like I did. Like my mother did. And her father, and every chief there has ever been. And on that day, when you place your stone, you will raise this whole mountain higher.
“You are the future of our people, Deku. They are not out there.” He points out to the ocean, Izuku staring out. His father had called him by the chief name he had chosen for himself a few years before. “They are right here. It’s time to be who they need you to be.” Toshi looks at him, and Izuku stares at the village, smiling.

"We make our nets from the fibers"
Izuku and his mom are busy cutting and harvesting coconuts, villagers dancing, singing and working around them.
"The water’s sweet inside
We use the leaves to build fires
We cook up the meat inside"
Toshi hands Izuku a couple coconuts and tosses some, villagers catching them.
"The village believes in us (Ha! That’s right)
The village believes (Ha!)
The island gives us what we need
And no one leaves"
Izuku is dancing at night, dancing with a couple other villagers, flowers adorning his arms and legs.
"So here I’ll stay
My home, my people beside me
And when I think of tomorrow
There we are"
Izuku places the headdress on, the finished green fabric wrapped around his waist. The multicolored pattern makes it pop against his red and tan outfit.
"I’ll lead the way
I’ll have my people to guide me
We'll build our future together
Where we are"
Izuku takes his parents hands and they walk down the aisle. He notices his grandfather dancing alone, but he holds himself proud, continuing on his way.
"Cause every path leads you back to
Where you are
You can find happiness right where you are
Where you are"
