Chapter 3

"Whoa, boy!" said James, pulling the reins. "Okay, we should camp now. It's getting dark."
Lydia got down from Cedar, and rubbed his neck. "I'll get the fire ready, well, if you want," she said.
"No, no, I'll do it," said Winifred quickly.
"Well, okay then."
Winifred disappeared into some bushes and trees, and Lydia laid down her blanket to sleep on.
James did the same and Lilly.
For a while they lay there, thinking, then James said, "Winifred has been a while. I'll think I'll try and go and find her, okay?"
"Right," said Lydia. "But you be careful, as well!"
"I will," said James, then he walked off.
Lydia stayed still for a moment, then Lilly said something from behind her. Lydia turned and said,"What did you say?"
Lilly looked at her and quickly said, "Nothing! Just..... just worried about Winifred."
"Yeah." Lydia nodded and looked back at where James had disappeared into the woods.

One hour later, and no one had come back. "Okay, we really need to try and find them. They probably got lost," said Lydia. "Obviously," said Lilly sharply.
Lydia knew she was very worried about them. "We need to try and find them together. We can't separate, definitely not!"
"Yes, I know!" Lilly snapped. Then both of them packed up their stuff, mounted their horses, and started to go towards the forest. But then Lydia halted her horse, and said, "We should take their horses as well. 'Cause we might get lost, and the poor horses will be left alone here."
So Lilly held one horse by the reins, while riding her own one, and Lydia did the same. Then they entered the creepy, dark forest.
Lydia shuddered, and Lilly's knuckles were white.
Fifteen minutes passed, then another, and they had saw nothing.
"What if we can't find them?" Lilly asked fearfully.
"We will," said Lydia confidently. "We will find them."
But her high spirits soon lowered when eighteen more minutes passed.
Lilly halted her horse. "It's no use, Lydia. We won't find them."
Lydia didn't say anything as well. She closed her eyes, wanting to sleep. But she knew she had to keep on. "Giddap!" she said to Cedar, who immediately started trotting.
Crack! Thud!
Cedar neighed, and Lydia almost fell off him. She looked around to see what or who had made the noise. Then suddenly something pounced on her! Lydia pushed the thing of her, and started to run. She scrambled up a tree. Lilly quickly did the same.
Lydia looked down to see what had pounced on her. She saw a Nundu. Nundu's were a fierce, most dangerous ever creature. It's breath was toxic. Lydia looked down at it again. She then realised that the Nundu was only a cub, so it wouldn't be as dangerous as a full-grown one.
(Here is a picture of a Nundu).

Luckily, the horses had galloped away, so that the Nundu couldn't harm them.
The Nundu cub pranced below them.
Lydia and Lilly sat in the trees, waiting for it to go.
