A Brief History of Muggle Interaction With Hippogriffs

Hippogriffs were first mentioned in ancient Latin poetry though they have been depicted in the Classical Era of the

16th century. In the poem, the hippogriff is a steed born of a mare and a griffin, and is extremely fast; able to fly

around the world to the moon and back again. It is not uncommon for wizards and witches to ride hippogriffs, though

they are quite noble creatures they can be ridden once bowed to and treated with respect. Insulting a hippogriff is a

serious injustice to their kind, and they are likely to attack if not treated with respect. In ancient muggle literature, we

hear of gods rescuing princesses on the backs of noble hippogriffs. One wizard deemed to be "mythological" in the

muggle world was a wizard we commonly know as Ruggierio II, born a knight with magical powers, he rescues the

beautiful muggle Angelica from the sea on a hippogriff. We know Ruggerio II to be a wizard because we have

discovered the story in ancient wizarding literature. Many "mythological creatures" known to the muggle world have

been around for centuries in the magical world, hidden away from sight. Muggles in ancient history who would

happen upon wild hippogriffs would be stunned beyond belief and would often record their sights through art or

literature. This was before the Ministry of Magic was formed and before Obliviators would wipe the memories of

Muggles spotting magic. We have since advanced greatly over time, now able to keep our secrets hidden away

from the muggle world for good.
