Horse Ride!

Chapter 5

The sun shone brightly on Freya's bed. Her eyes flicked open. She was awake, ready for a new day to begin. She leapt out of bed. She could hear Mrs. Thornley frying sausages. Hmm! Yum!
Freya was downstairs in a second.
"Good morning!" said Mrs. Thornley. "I have your breakfast ready -" she pointed to the table, where on a plate, was sausages with tomato sauce on them. There was also potatoes and salad.
Freya gulped it all down. Not once before she had had such a delicious meal!
"Please, Mrs. Thornley, can I go and see Alezan?"
"Whoever is Alezan?" asked Mrs. Thornley, looking puzzled.
"Oh, well, you see, I met your palomino horse, Blaze, not far from the orphanage. This was before I came here, if course! But I named Blaze Alezan because I didn't know his name," explained Freya.
"I see," said Mrs. Thornley. "Alezan's a nice name - well, better than Blaze. Tim named him that. And yes, hurry along dear, to the barn and have fun."
"Thank you!" said Freya as she swiftly ran out of the house.
She met James in the barn. He was saddling one of the brown horses. "Hey Freya! Good morning! I'm just going for a ride on Bruin. Wanna come?"
"Sure! But should I ask.....?"
"Nah! Tim won't mind! He never does!" said James. "I can saddle up Blaze if you want."
"Alezan, you mean!" protested Freya. "And yeah, you can saddle him, I don't really know how."
When the horses were ready to go, Freya tried to mount Alezan but failed.
"I can help you," offered James.
"No! I can do. I can try at the fence," said Freya. "But thanks anyway." She led Alezan over to the fence where she climbed onto it, then put her foot into the saddle, then pulled herself up onto Alezan. Yes! She was up!
"Great!" said James. Then easily he mounted Bruin.
Freya nudged Alezan a bit with her knees and he went walking.
"Let's go up this way," said James, pointing to a path ahead with lots of trees around it. "And then that leads down to the beach, and there we can gallop!"
"Really, do you think I might be able to, so soon?" asked Freya.
"Well, maybe not, but you could try trotting," replied James.
"Ooh, good!" exclaimed Freya. "Can I try now?"
"No - wait till we're down at the beach."
The leaves of the tree rustled and the sun shone through in slits.
They rode for a while till finally they came down to the beach.
"Do you want to try trotting now?" asked James.
"Yes," said Freya eagerly.
James showed her how.
After they had had a lot of fun, James said, "I guess we should be getting back."
Freya nodded.
When they were home, she told Tim and Mrs. Thornley all about the horse ride.
"Well, it did sound like you had a nice time," said Mrs. Thornley. "And you got home at the right time. It is dinner time."

After dinner Freya got ready for bed. The moon was full that night and it the brightness shone on Freya's bed. She curled up on it, and gazed at the moon. Then suddenly she was asleep.
