Day 1 of Training

Chapter 5
The next morning, I hear Lyma yelling at me to get up. I sit up and see an Avox sitting in my room. Avoxes are people who betrayed the Capitol and got their tongues got cut off. Now they must serve the Capitol or they die. The male Avox hands me some clothes. It's a black jumpsuit with red stripes. I put it on and head out of my room. "There you are. It took you long enough," says Lyma shortly but I'm not listening because on the table is food. Not district food but Capitol food. There’re eggs, bacon, cakes and so much more. I sit at the table and look at the food. A few minutes later Patrick sits down. He's also staring at the food. We both tuck in as Porter comes in and tells about the next few days. "So, training time. For the next 3 days you will train. At the end of the third day you will present yourself to the Gamemakers. You will get a score from 1-12. The score will help you get sponsors. Remember never show all your skills to the other tributes. You want them to be intimidated but keep some talents secret," Porter says quickly. I nod but ask her if we should make alliances during training time or after. Porter says after the second day there will be a dinner for the tributes and that's where we can make alliances. She also says anytime during the second or third day is good to make alliances. Me & Patrick finish our breakfast and go in the lift down to the bottom floor. We walk into the training room and two people pin pieces of fabric on our backs. I look at Patrick's clothing and see a 5 on the fabric. All the tributes assemble around a lady, her name is Atala. She explains to us about the training room. I observe the other tributes. The girl from 12 is also looking at people. I notice a little girl, probably 12, looking at the girl. She's sweet but she'll probably get killed in the first day. Atala tells us not to fight with tributes before dismissing us. I head towards the poisonous food station. I want to know what to eat until the right time. I'm pretty good since I have good memory. Next, we move onto hand to hand combat. I notice Patrick talking to the District 10 male. I wonder if there is an alliance being formed. I wait in line. I line up towards the end and the only person behind me is the boy from 4. I watch as the Careers fight the helper people. They're good and they're big. As the line moves down, people head to other stations. I watch Patrick as he fights. He's not bad but he's not good. The line moves down again. It's the girl from 11 now. She can barely fight but she's quick and dodges all the hits. The line moves again. I watch the other tributes at the stations. My attention is then brought back to the combat. The boy from 10 is fighting with some sort of bat. He's big and strong. I think he could fight Cato. Suddenly, there's a racket coming from another station. Its the boy from 2 and the boy from 6. The boy from 2 is yelling at the other boy. What I can make out is that the boy from stole his knife. Eventually, it's my turn but just before I go up Atala tells the tributes that the day is over. Atala tells the other tributes to go to the dinner. She tells me and the boy from 4 that we'll have our turns and then leave. The other tributes file out. I go up to the helper. He jumps at me and I dodge him and roll through his legs. I push him from the back and he falls on his face. I laugh to myself. Apparently, I'm good at this but I do wonder if he's going easy on me. The helper stands up and tells me to wait until the boy finishes. The boy from 4 is the same height as the girl from 11. He isn't as good as the girl and gets knocked onto the floor. He stands up and I notice his nose is bleeding. He holds his nose and runs to the elevator. I ask him if he was coming to the lunch but he shakes his head as the elevator doors close. I head towards the dinner. Nothing exciting happened but I notice the Careers eyeing out some of the tributes. Soon the meal is over and district by district we go up to our floors. I go into my room, get changed and fall asleep as soon as my head touches the pillow.
