Jerry was walking down to the grounds, alone, which was quite unusual, for he was quite known. In his right hand he was holding his potions textbook and potions was his worst subject. The Hogwarts grounds were quite empty for everyone was inside doing their assignments.
Suddenly Jerrry noticed a girl sitting alone, just staring at something. He edged nearer to the girl and said, "What's wrong?"
The girl jumped and she glared at Jerry. "Nothing!" she said, looking irritated.
"Okay," said Jerry, but he was still suspicious. "Why aren't you up in your common room?"
"Why aren't you. I just came out here - it's all quiet and peaceful."
"Yeah, came for the same thing as well," said Jerry. Then he saw the girl glance at the forbidden forest.
"Something is wrong," said Jerry.
"Oh, just stop it, will you?" she exclaimed.
"Oh well, okay," said Jerry. He glanced at his potions textbook and muttered, "I give up!"
The girl glanced at him.
"Anyway, my name's Jerry - Jerry Smith," said Jerry. "You?"
The girl hesitated then said, "Ella, Ella Brennan."
"Anyway, if I'm going to give up on this potions assignment, I'm just going to go and have some food. Wanna come?" Jerry asked.
"Uh..." Ella glanced again at the forbidden forest, but said, "Oh... fine!" she jumped up from the rock she had been sitting on and began to walk up to Hogwarts with Jerry. He said, "I'm still suspicious... what is in the forbidden forest?"
"Nothing!" Ella snapped. Then her face relaxed. "Okay, sorry..." She began to say something else, but then stopped.
Jerry didn't question her again, but strode faster up to Hogwarts, with Ella tagging along behind him.
When they had walked into the Great Hall, someone immediately called, "Hey! Jerry! Where have you been?"
Jerry turned around to see a boy standing there. He recognised it as his friend, Alex.
"Uh, just down at the grounds," said Jerry.
"And who is this?" asked Alex, pointing at Ella.
"She's... no one," said Jerry, glancing at Ella.
Ella glared at Jerry and then she said stiffly to Alex, "I'm Ella."
"Ella who?" Alex asked.
"Ella Brennan," said Ella. Then she turned to Jerry.
"Weren't we going to get something to eat?"
"Uh, yeah," said Jerry, but Alex grabbed his arm. "Hey, you were going to meet me in the..." he paused and glanced at Ella.
"Does she have to be here when..." he paused again.
"Um... Ella, can we just go somewhere private?" asked Jerry.
"Uh, sure," said Ella. She looked suspiciously at Alex.
He grabbed Jerry's arm and pulled him outside. "I thought we were going to see that baby... dragon again," he said.
"I know, but I can't just do it right now. Is that okay?"
"No, it isn't," said Alex. He glared at Jerry. "I have to do my classes and I can't see it tomorrow." He glanced around, in case if anyone was eavesdropping.
The two boys had recently found the baby dragon in the forbidden forest alone, but with a blanket around, so the boys had thought that someone else had been taking care of it, then probably just gave up. So Jerry had felt compassion for it and decided to help it. But they had left the dragon in the forbidden forest, for sneaking it into Hogwarts would not be a good thing to do. Someone might find it.
Jerry said now, "Okay, fine. I'll just tell Ella that I have to go somewhere.
Alex nodded curtly.
Jerry raced back into the Great Hall. "Ella, I have to go somewhere with Alex, but you - you have to stay here..."
For some reason Ella looked panicky. "Uh - okay!" Then she rushed out of the Great Hall.
