Chapter 1
Mya Silverstone and her father, Micheal, walked through the woods together, to their hut of a home. They lived in the woods, and hunted a lot too. But these past days, the daughter and father had not very much luck. They survived on the little meat they had left, and the little crops they have in their garden. The garden was very small. Only two feet in length, and three feet in width. They were pretty poor, living with just Micheal's mom, Jean.
Mya's parents had divorced when she was two years old, and she never really knew her mother. But the one picture she has of her mom and dad and her when she was one, in her room, looked like they were having fun, smiling, laughing, even without smiling on purpose for the picture. So Mya didn't know how things could have possibly have taken a wrong turn.
The next day, fifteen year old Mya and her father went deeper into the woods once again, going seperate ways this time. But it wasn't a big deal, they had done this before many times, though sometimes bad things like getting lost did happen, though they would only be lost for a few minutes. Mya crept slowly through the woods, trying not to scare any deer. Mya wasn't the one doing the killing, she just helps her father find animals. So when Mya would find something, she would call her father with her walkie-talkie, and tell her father where she is for him to come. But Mya had been searching for an hour now, and couldn't find anything. Maybe her father hadn't even found anything! Mya was tired of always spending time finding animals even though they never would. She found a nice spot to sleep, and, against what her father would've done, decided to sleep for a few minutes. So, she got comfy, and hit the hay.
Mya woke up to the sound of leaves. "Who's there?", she said. She waited for a few minutes, her brown hair whipping every way to see what had woken her. Mya had slept for an hour, as she checked her watch! But she was lost, deeper than she could ever have imagined. So deep, she was beyond lost. But Mya ran, she didn't know which way her home was, but she knew she had to at least try to find her home. For what seemed like a mile, Mya scurried to a stop. There was a hut right there, only about fifty steps away from her. But the hut seemed peculiar to Mya. It definitely couldn't be her home. The hut in front of her was so small, inside was probably only a bed and table and a few chairs. But it wasn't a bathroom. It looked to much like a home for it to be a bathroom. Curious, Mya ascended forward.
Mya reached the house, nervous. She cleared her throat, and knocked on the fragile door gently. "Hello? Anyone home?", she said. "Hello?", she said again, losing hope when all of a sudden she heard foot steps. "Who's there?", said a voice, an old female one. Suddenly, Mya saw a green eye peep in through a crack in the door. "Oh, um hi! My name's Mya. Nice to meet you! I got lost and -", but Mya got interrupted. "Say no more, come in", said the woman. The door opened, Mya peering, and walking forward cautiously.
When Mya walked in, she noticed one thing first. The room had an amazing smell. Was it peppermint? Lavender? Melted chocolate? Freshly baked goods? Whatever it was, the aroma filled the air, making Mya's stomach grumble. Mya didn't notice, she was fascinated by the wonderful smell and the beautiful house. It had cream colored curtains with embroidered flowers, and comfy cream colored, white, and burgundy pillows on the cream colored sofas. The white walls and white carpet though simple, made the house magnificently even more wonderful. The big kitchen, filled with many different types of food and paintings of beautiful flowers, and real flowers, was also splendid, compared to Mya's brown walls, and small kitchen with a caterpillar in a vase instead of flowers. But then it hit her -- outside, the house was so small, smaller than her's! Why's it so big now? 'Maybe I was just looking at it from an angle', she thought. But it was still a bit weird- "Dear, dear! You are all by yourself! Who would ever let a beautiful girl like you get lost by yourself in the woods?", the woman said. "My dad?", Mya said slowly, confused if the woman was calling her father a bad person. The woman shakes her head in amazement. "Very bad father", she said, gently pushing Mya down on the sofa, wrapping a blanket around her, and giving her a big bowl of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream. Mya raised her eyebrows on that note.
Mya ate the ice cream gratefully, but keeping her head down since the old woman was looking at her eating. Which was downright awkward since she looked suspicious too.
