Hazelpelt's Story

written by Lizzie Scamander

Has pictures inside, and a different font! Hazelpelt is a warrior in Windclan, and troubled by the strange trespassing Thunderclan cats, that continue to cross Windclan territory. And when she is summoned by Harestar she wonders if it is something to do with Thunderclan's suspicious behavior... I am doing this book on behalf of a group I joined, that primarily concerns Warrior Cats.

A Summoning

Chapter 1

Hazelpelt lifted her nose and tasted the air. Inwardly deeming it safe, she stealthily moved forward, her tail convulsing soundlessly as her whiskers twitched. Athletically, she sprang upward, and gained her equilibrium easily as she landed lightly upon the log. Her ears pricked as she heard a small noise - yet a significant noise. She padded forward quickly, her eyes attentive and her paws ready to reveal the claws that would provide her with her meal. Then abruptly she halted and crouched down.
The thrush appeared, cautiously hopping along, it's gaze flitting anxiously around, surveying the silent trees suspiciously. Then Hazelpelt leapt, her rippling fur distinguishing her slender form as she jumped. The thrush squawked then fell limp as Hazelpelt's jaws closed around it's neck. Satisfied, Hazelpelt picked up her prey and padded away. But then she stopped, hesitant as she discerned a shape partially hidden up ahead by a clump of long grass, and detected a scent on the air. But then she recognised the smell, and her uncertainty vanished.
"Frostpaw," she said, and inclined her head briefly in hasty acknowledgement of the white tom cat before her. "I didn't expect anyone to be out here in the forest at this time. It's a little bit late, as I'm sure you know." She did not intend suspicion but Frostpaw's eyes narrowed disapprovingly and she knew he assumed it.
"There's nothing wrong with me being out here," he said curtly. "I'm not one of those prowling Thunderclan warriors."
Hazelpelt felt disgust well heavily inside her. "Yes, I suppose you aren't," she agreed. "Has Harestar spoken with Bramblestar yet?"
Frostpaw shook his head. "No, unfortunately," he replied. "But she should! We can't have Thunderclan warriors dominating over our territory. I don't see why he hesitates. The medicine cats say it's because she doesn't want to offend Bramblestar."
"She shouldn't worry about that," Hazelpelt said fiercely. "Bramblestar can be annoyed - that doesn't change the fact that he's allowing his clan to trample on our territory." Then she realised the awkwardness of the subject and changed the topic abruptly. "But anyway, what are you doing out here?"
"I was checking," Frostpaw replied, "For Thunderclan cats. Harestar won't send out patrols ensuring there's no one trespassing so I took the responsibility into my own paws. Why are you out here at this time?"
"I was hunting," Hazelpelt said. "I was busy with my duties earlier and didn't get the chance to eat." She shook her head bitterly. "Boy, am I hungry! Let's get back to the camp."
Frostpaw nodded, and followed as she led the way. Presently, they emerged out of the thick trees and Hazelpelt padded over to the food pile, dropped her hunt in and pulled out a blackbird to eat while Frostpaw departed to converse with a group of friends. As she bit in to the small, feathered body she observed Ravenfur, a dark tom, approaching.
"Hazelpelt," Ravenfur said as he reached her. Hazelpelt felt a distinctive curiosity inside her as she detected a serious scent around him.
"What's the matter?" She asked.
"Nothing," Ravenfur said. "Or so I think. But Harestar wants us now, in his den."
"Me?" Hazelstar asked incredulously.
Ravenfur nodded. "But hurry, let's not keep him waiting."
Hazelpelt stood up, and deposited her half-finished food, suddenly not hungry at all. What could Harestar want? Slightly uneasily, but slightly proudly, at the same time, she followed Ravenfur into Harestar's den.
