Chapter 1
The sun shone upon the slender figure of a wavy brown-haired young female leaning on a large oak tree, sitting down. Next to her were a short pile of books and her book bag, and in front of her were parchment, an eagle quill, and a bottle of ink. Her chocolate brown eyes that was now slightly red and puffy from crying darted left to right on an open book settle on her lap. She ran a hand through her messily drawn up hair.

"Studying for exams so early already, Granger?" a husky and slightly quivering male voice drawled. A shadow fell upon her book and blocked part of the sun's light.

Hermione looked up, eyes narrowed, and moved her hands up to try and hide the redness of her eyes when she saw that the boy's usually beautiful grey eyes were also just slightly red. She let her hands down and retorted, "I wasn't aware it was any of your business, Malfoy." "Ah, but that's not the real reason. Drowning yourself in studies because you're broken and upset isn't a very good thing," Draco said, acting as if he was concern. But Hermione saw something else in his eyes. His grey eyes weren't cold and insulting; instead, it held a mix of pure concern and brokenness as well. "Why do you care and who are you to lecture me about this? It really is none of your business!" she snaps, then gave a little sigh as she realize that he was right and hated herself for agreeing with him.

Draco held up his hands as if in surrender with a slight smirk on his face. "Whoa, Granger. I wasn't giving you a lecture, you know. There's something call 'pointing a remark out', in case you never heard of that before."

Hermione rolled her eyes. "Honestly, you'll give me a shock if you're actually showing that a pure-blood, especially a Malfoy, is giving a muggle-born 'know-it-all' a lecture." Draco gave her another signature mark of his. "And here I thought you were the smart one."

"Please, Malfoy. You're actually doing this now when I least need it? I just want to be alone right now!" "Because of Weasel and Brown together now?" Hermione's eyes instantly hardened into solid chocolate. In a bitter voice, she told him, "I swear on Godric's sake, if you ever bring that up again, I will hex you to oblivion and remember that. You know perfectly well why I want to be alone and just because you can doesn't mean you have to saunter up to me like you're a prince and say it to my face! I'm over him and his god-damn stupid new girlfriend!"

"But clearly she's not, since Granger's trying to drown herself in studies and crying her eyes out over a no-good Weasel like him," Draco drawled out. "Since when have someone like you try to make a mudblood like me feel better? Are you even trying? I actually don't expect you to," Hermione says.

Draco winced at the way she called herself 'mudblood' so carelessly. The memories of when his deranged aunt was torturing her still haunted him and he didn't even know why. "I'm not in the mood for this, Granger," he snaps. "Because your heart was broken too, Malfoy?" she whispers. Draco snapped. "Don't even fucking say that, Granger! Because your heart was broken doesn't mean you have to point my heartbreak out too!!!!" he shouts. "Yet you still admit it! And if you don't want me to say it, then don't say it about me!!" Hermione screams back, getting up, her book falling from her lap. The two of them stood face-to-face, breathing heavily and glaring at each other.

Hermione's face were streaked with tears and Draco's eyes were red and sharp. At that moment, he suddenly found himself thinking how Granger looked beautiful and broken like that, hair so messy and her angelic face with broken tears. She doesn't deserve this, he thought, she needs someone better, someone who can make her happy. He quickly shook his head. Why am I even thinking this? he snaps to himself and looked at Hermione again.

"How about we just leave this like this? This was pointless to even talk about," Hermione says quietly. Draco nodded, too drained to say anything else. He gave her a half-hearted wave before he could stop himself and stumbled away. Hermione dropped back onto the grass and buried her face in her arms, tears dropping again, everything laying forgotten in front and next to her.
