Chapter 17
The next day I couldn't stop thinking about Makayla. I finally decided to tell her that I had seen her. At lunch I looked up and down the table three times but didn't see a sign of Makayla. I wandered the corridors looking in through open classroom doors, trying to find her, but she wasn't anywhere. That night at dinner I looked up and down the table again, but she still wasn't there. I grabbed some bread and stood up. I swung my bag over my shoulder and walked out of the hall. If she's anywhere she must be in the common room or the dormitory. I walked up stairs and through corridors, along secret passages and through doors pretending to be wall, until the chatter coming from the Great Hall was so distant they could all have been eating outside.

I entered the common room, it was warm and the main light was the blazing fire. In one of the comfortable chairs near the fire sat Makayla. I went to sit down beside her, wondering if she would be angry I had seen her. "Hello Luna." She said looking around at me. "Hi Makayla," I said nervously, "Look, I have something to tell you, and you're not going to like it." I said even more nervously. And I explained all about how I had followed her to the potions classroom and watched her drink the potion, and how I had followed her to the Forbidden Forest and seen her turn into a werewolf. With every sentence Makayla's expression of horror worsened. "I'm really, really sorry Makayla. I know I shouldn't have followed you, it was wrong. And it's been torturing me all day." I finished miserably. Makayla nodded, still looking as though I had just told her that she was going to be sent to Azkaban.

I handed Makayla a piece of the bread I had taken from dinner, she accepted it but didn't eat. I didn't know what to do. "S- so what do you want to happen now?" She finally whispered. I didn't understand, "What? What do you mean?" I asked. "Well, I-I've had to keep this a secret or else students might get scared and-" she started but I interrupted her. "Do you mean, do I want you to leave?" I breathed. She nodded, I could see tears in her eyes. 'No way! You're still the same Makayla that you were before I found out. Your secret is safe with me." I said soothingly. Makayla smiled at me then took a bite of bread.

I spent all of the next day with Makayla. She was telling me in hushed tones about how she had become a werewolf. At dinner I sat beside her and we talked happily about anything that came up. I told her about crooning liver-lilys and she seemed pretty fascinated. "Dad and I have been looking for them for two years now. They mostly hide in small ponds, but when a frog passes by it, they attach themselves to it. Then they slowly get inside of the frogs mouth and find the frogs liver. Once they've found it they start feeding on the liver. It makes the frog do some pretty weird things." I finished promptly just as the food on the golden plates turned into desert.

By the end of the day in my bed I had one thought. I had finally made a friend in my own house.
