Chapter 2: The Tonkes Girl
Chapter 2
Ellie and Bill caught up with the other Gryffindor's. Oliver made a movement with his hands. Ellie seemed to understand.
"They were making fun of William ." Elllie said to Oliver. She then thought for a moment. Then turned to Bill "Can I call you William? Since we're friends now. Are we friends?"
"Um sure, we can be friends. But call me Bill. Did you understand what Johnson said?" Bill asked.
"Oh, yeah I did. I'm muggle born, so I grew up going to school in the muggle world. We had a kid in my class who was deaf," Ellie explained. Oliver made another hand movement then pointed at Bill. "Also he wants you to call him Oliver and not Johnson,"
"All right Oliver. So Ellie what are your parent's like? My dad is fascinated by muggle technology," Bill asked. As soon as he said that Ellie's face turned serious.
"Bill I grew up in an orphanage. My parents are dead," Ellie said very calmly but still serious. Oliver made a quick hand movement, that probably meant 'I'm sorry'.
"I didn't know. I'm sorry. But if you don't mind me asking, how is the orphanage? I heard that some are pretty bad," Bill asked, as the Gryffindors approached a painting with a picture of a fat lady on it. Ellie refused to look at Bill as she spoke her response.
"It's alright, I was in a better one when I was younger but they became full and I was placed in a foster home. Not long after though the house caught on fire and I was the only survivor. So I was put in a different orphanage," Ellie explained. Oliver made some hand movements, that Bill would later learn to be 'Fire is a dangerous thing. I have had to deal with it before'.'
Bill was glad they had reached the common room as he felt too awkward to ask any more questions.

Over the next few weeks, the three of them became better friends. Bill even learned a bit of sign language. Ellie wore her hair in a braid everyday.
Eventually Halloween came.
"Let's head downstairs for breakfast Oliver," Bill said coming down into the Gryffindor common room. Oliver made a hand movement, witch Bill had figured out meant 'Ellie'.
"She said she would meet us there," Bill responded. Oliver nodded. On the way down stares Bill heard yelling coming from one of the hallways. Bill signed the words 'Careful' and 'Noise' as he pointed down the hall. It sounded like people were fighting. Normally Bill would change there rout because bullies always brought up him tripping on the first day of school, but unfortunately this was the only way.
The boys turned the corner to see, the Tonks girl trying to grab a piece of paper from an older and taller mean Ravenclaw kid.The girls hair was a flaming red.
"Give it back! I spent all night working on that!" She yelled trying to grab it.
"No! Why should I? Your just a stupid Metamorphmagus!" The kid said. Bill thought about it, he had heard that word before it meant a person who can change there physical features at will, that fit with the Tonkes girl.
Oliver signed asking what they were saying, as they were to far away to read their lips. Bill singed saying 'The Raven is bulling Tonkes girl'. Oliver and Ellie always referred to the houses by an animal. Oliver began to walk over to the two fighting students but Bill grabbed his arm and said that he would go. Kids often picked on Oliver because he was deaf. Bill didn't want to place Oliver in that position.
Bill walked up to the Ravenclaw.
"Give her back, her homework! I thought Ravenclaw's value knowledge, and want everyone to learn!" Bill yelled at the Ravenclaw.
"Your just a little red head, what can you do if I don't cooperate?" The Ravenclaw teased.
"I-I um," Bill stuttered.
"Here. Have it," The Ravenclaw said, gently. Bill outstretched a hand. "In your wildest dreams!" The Ravnclaw screeched as they ripped the piece of paper in two. The Tonkes girl cried and ran off. The Ravenclaw turned to Bill, and punched him. Bill fell back onto the stone floor and hit his head hard on the stone. Bill yelped out in pain. His vision began to blur just as he saw Oliver run over to him. Oliver made a sign witch meant 'You okay?'. But Bill blacked out before he could sign back.
Multiple kids ran over to see what happened to Bill. One Hufflepuff girl yelled that she would find a teacher.
