Maisy Stellen has hand magic. She is a orphan, and sleeps in an old barn. Her friend Isabella, lives in a perfectly fine house, but she doesn't tell her parents about Maisy. She says that wouldn't like her. So Isabella smuggles her food from the house, and that is how Maisy is living. But then something terrible happens.... If you like my book, you can owl me. Chapter Two
Chapter 2
"Why Jerry?" Asked Maisy. She was still very anxious about Buddy.
"Well, he might be able to help us more," said Isabella. Jerry was the only one who knew about Maisy, and he was kind to her. He was also Isabella's brother.
"Okay," said Maisy.
"You stay out here," said Isabella. "I'll go and get Jerry quickly."
"Yeah - go quickly," said Maisy.
Isbella only seemed like ten seconds. There she was, with Jerry. He had red hair, lots of freckles and hazel eyes. "Your dog is gone?" he asked.
"Yes!" said Maisy. "And we need you to help us."
"Fine. But he might just be exploring and come back later."
"No. He's gone. I whistled for him, and he always comes when I do," said Maisy sharply.
"Maisy, calm down! We'll find him soon enough," said Isabella, rolling her eyes.
"Hey! What if we don't?" said Maisy, glaring at Isabella.
She didn't answer.
"Okay. Where to now?" Jerry asked. "And we can't be gone long. It's almost evening."
"Yeah," agreed Isabella.
"Fine fine fine!" said Maisy. She was getting more nervous and impatient.
I'll just try and call your dog," said Jerry.
"He will not -" started Maisy, but Isabella silenced her with one look.
Jerry whistled - loud and clear. Jerry listened, for there might be an answering bark. Then a loud whine was heard - definitely a dogs whine
"That's Buddy's whine - I'm sure it is!" said Maisy.
"Well, you can't be sure but let's just look in case," said Jerry
So they crept towards the sound where the dogs whine had been.
Then Maisy saw a dog. It was Buddy. A man was gripping his fur, and was dragging him towards a car.
Jerry had obviously seen Buddy too, for he whispered, "Don't do anything, or say anything."
"No!" said Maisy in a loud whisper. "I can't just leave him!" And then she ran out and shouted to the man, "Dog thief! Give him back to me!"
Jerry ran out from behind their hiding place. "Stop Maisy I -"
But the man said to Maisy, "You can have your dog back soon."
"Soon?" shouted Maisy. "How dare you take away my dog! Let him go!"
Buddy whined again and he tried to get to Maisy but the man held him back. Buddy growled at him.
Then the man was silent for a moment and then surprisingly he let go of Buddy and said, "Meet me here in the morning."
"Why would we do that?" said Maisy suspiciously. She kissed Buddy on his black wet nose.
"Just trust me," said the strange man. "Oh and my manners. I am Ben Phillips."
"Let's go now!" said Jerry impatiently. He glared at Ben, and then strode away. Isabella and Maisy ran after him Buddy following close behind.
Ben got into his car and drove away.
"He's creepy," said Isabella.
Maisy didn't answer.
"Well, he was trying to steal Maisy's dog, I'm sure. And don't any of you girls go sneaking here again to meet him. Something bad will happen, I know it," said Jerry.
Isabella or Maisy didn't answer. Then she said, "Yeah Jerry, you're right."
They reached the house, and Maisy parted from them and went into the barn which had the horses in it, for Isabella and Jerry lived on a farm.
Maisy went forward to Star a female horse - Isabella had called her Star because she had one on her forehead.
Maisy held out her hand for Star to muzzle it. Maisy laughed and inhaled the wonderful smell of the horses. She was lucky to spend the night with horses.
Sometimes Maisy had to hide in the barn when Isabella's father came into it. He usually saddled one of the horses and went for a ride. Maisy wished she could, but it would be quite a risk.
Maisy patted Star again, and then sat down on the hay and closed her eyes. Buddy was curled up beside her and soon she was asleep.
