Potions

Chapter 16
Hermione looked over at Harry's cauldron, half annoyed, half in shock. His Draught of Living Death potion was "nearly perfect," according to the Professor. He had apparently "inherited his mother's talent" for Potion- making. Slughorn had said that Harry's potion was perfect- perfect! All he had done was taken the advice of whomever the Half-Blood Prince was, and done what had been scribbled in the margins of the old textbook. But still- perfect! Hermione felt that she should have been awarded the prize of winning. After all, she was the brightest witch of her age, and had never, ever come in second. Until now.
As Slughorn's class came to a close, he announced that everyone should look to their right. Hermione did, and locked on to a set of grey eyes.
"This person will be your partner for the rest of the semester- take some time to get to know them, because you'll be working together quite a bit in this class!" Slughorn chuckled, motioning for everyone to leave.
'My partner is Draco Malfoy.' Hermione thought, still not looking away. 'For the rest of the semester.' She gave Draco a small smile before she picked up her bag and turned towards the door with the stream of other students.
"Granger!" a voice called. She turned around; Draco held up a piece of parchment that had fallen out, covered in small, neat handwriting. Hermione took it, carefully putting the page between the folds of a notebook.
"Thanks." she said quickly, glancing at him and tucking a stray lock of brown hair behind her ear. He didn't say anything, but rather looked at her. He just nodded slightly, giving the slightest of smiles, and whisked out of the room, followed closely by Pansy Parkinson.
"Moved on quickly, have we?" whispered a voice behind her. Hermione turned around and glared at Harry; he just stared right back.
"I have not!" She said, crossing her arms. "I have moved on from Ron, yes. He's a spoiled, bloody idiot. But no, Harry, have I developed 'feelings' for Malfoy." She adjusted her bag on her shoulder, lifting her chin. "I'm not the one who takes advice from a random person that wrote in a Potions textbook." Before Harry could respond, Hermione walked out of the room.
