Ever noticed at the bottom of your page, there's a little thing that says Powered by the harry__ server? Go ahead. Check! Now reload the page and check again. Is it different? Chances are, it is.
You probably have noticed this before. HiH runs on different servers. Now, are different ways to run servers, but HiH does a sort of Master/Slave or Clone thing.
Ever had a message that says the HiH is on downtime, so come back in an hour? Scroll down and you'll see that this page is being run by the harry server. No letters after it, just harry. harry is the main server where most of the stuff is tested or coded. Then it is copied onto the others. So when you see the downtime message, don't get mad at the teachers the next time you're on, just reload the page.
What does reloading the page do?
Whenever you click to go to another page or reload the page, the website sends you to a random server. Therefore, that random server is most likely not the main one.
I'm still confused. Why are there multiple servers?
Multiple servers help distribute the load of users. According to many of the teachers and the social media sites for HiH, there has been a massive amount of new students who wish to join because it is being advertised by news and people as a way to pass the time instead of watching videos all day. This means that there are a lot of people on at the same time. The servers make the load easier on each other, like when you and your friend help each other carry shopping bags home. It's easier for the servers to process it.
Okay, I get it. But if there are so many extra students, why don't the people just get another server or server router?
You see... servers are not the cheapest things ever. They cost money. This is a website full of unpaid volunteers with a great love of Harry Potter who are willing to spend their time to help keep the magic alive. The reason why you don't experience these kinds of problems with big corporations like Amazon, Disney, Netflix, Hulu HBO, or anything is that they have a lot more money. Places like Amazon even have the means to make their own. So instead of yelling at the teachers for how slow the website is loading or the downtime, thank them for their time as they also have real jobs.
