Chapter 3
Today, someone might think, was ordinary. Sure, the sky was now a shade of bright azure, unlike the prior day, and the birds chirped and sang happily among the trees, but there was something else. Something that was...different. Something that was special.
The contestants of last year's competition would be named, crowned, and admitted into the mysterious class that everyone longed to be a part of.
Every year at Hogwarts, eight selected fourth years, a boy and girl from each house, would go through a series of competitions and trials at the woods near the Silver Lakes. Whomever came out alive at daybreak won, and would be crowned a champion.
Today, exactly half a year before the next group of selected students had their turn, the champions of the competition would be revealed.
The Chosen stood in front of the rest of the school; most looked confident, gazes bright and smiles upon their faces. But one or two, Kahala noticed, looked slightly...less enthusiastic about being in the presence of the entire student body. But ever still, they smiled.
Headmistress Trillany raised her arms at the podium, and the seemingly endless chatter died down. She smiled to the students, obviously pleased that they had followed orders so quickly.
"Another year," she said, "Another group of students that have proven themselves worthy." Applause filled the Great Hall, where everyone had assembled at their house tables. As Trillany continued her speech about the dangers and sacrifice of being in the competition, Kahala looked over at Celestia and caught her friend's eye, flashing her a smile.
