Newt Scamander
written by Anatoli Harvie
Newt Scamander is an unassuming naturalist whose mild demeanor and devotion to the entire gamut of magical creatures hides enough cleverness and strength to stand up to none other than Gellert Grindelwald himself. Newt’s career as a magizoologist began as a young man working for the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. He became the celebrated author of the book Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, now considered to be the premier bestiary of the wizarding world. Scamander retired to Dorset after decades of research and exploration.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is commissioned
Chapter 8
1918
Augustus Worme of Obscurus Books commissions the young Newt Scamander to write a guide of magical beasts. The result is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, first published in 1927, a book which has been an approved Hogwarts textbook ever since and gone into 52 editions.
Scamander takes at the opportunity to write a reference book to magical creatures eagerly, out of both enthusiasm for the topic and the money to supplement the meager salary he earned as a low-level employee at the Ministry of Magic. In the eight years between the book’s commission and first publication, Scamander travelled the world in search of undiscovered magical species.
