A Hospitable Welcome & Surprise

Chapter 3
The first delectable feast at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, especially big and magnificent on accord of all the students' arrival, is always the best in my opinion, partly because, despite the considerable effort the Hogwarts Express puts into making conveyance as comfortable as possible, the journey wearies you out and also because it is the starting of a presumably brilliant year.
Penelope, a Ravenclaw, could not sit with me and I longed all throughout dinner that she was perched beside me on the bench. I kept my eye on her all the while I ate, ignoring my other customary conversationalists, and was positively delighted when she waved. I disapproved of two newly sorted first years when they giggled, immediately assuming romance. Oh, I hate it when everyone does that! It's not true!
After finishing my jam doughnut I stood up with the rest of the houses and proceeded to direct the Gryffindor first years to the dormitory. They marveled at the moving staircases, talking occupants in the pictures we passed, and were very excited when I stopped them at the Fat Lady and she asked, "password?"
"Balderdash," I replied promptly, and she swung forwards, permitting us into the Gryffindor common room. I informed the first years of the necessary information and then slumped down in an armchair by the fire. The portrait hole opened and Harry, Ron and Hermione entered. Immediately, everyone sprang to greet them. I straightened, extremely puzzled. I heard someone yell, Lee Jordan I think, Fred and George's inappropriate friend, "Flying a car to Hogwarts! That'll be a legend, that one."
Something clicked mentally with me. Ron and Harry Potter had flown the enchanted Ford Anglia to Hogwarts! I stood still a moment, stunned. Then I tried to fight through the crowd to them. Harry noticed me coming and nudged Ron. They hurried up into their dormitory. I stopped, furious. How dare they! I would write to Mother, I would. Though Professor Dumbledore probably already knew about it. Well, in that case, Ron would be in extreme trouble. And that Harry Potter - well, he wasn't the best friend.
Yet inside I actually marveled at what the two had done.
