I'm Jordan.
My mom was not surprised when I got my letter to Hogwarts. My dad was.
My mom is a wizard and my dad is a muggle. He knew about her, sure, but he was hoping me to be a muggle like him. You never know with half-bloods. My mom said either way she would love me. My dad said the same, and he meant it truly, but he still couldn't wrap his head around the whole thing. It's hard for a wizard child and a muggle parent to bond, at least from what I've experienced. It's not chemistry, it's potions. He can't help me train for sports, because it's Quiddich. He can't help me with homework. I'm gone for over half the year and come back with a stick and some robes. I understood his point of view. It was hard for him, and for me. But we made it work.
He called me an "unstoppable force" once, cause I never stopped at anything I loved until I was the best. The unfortunate outcome of that was I tended to forget to do other things.
"You're strong minded and strong hearted. If you stay kind, ambitious, and passionate, you will do great things in life, so you can't allow anyone to change that part of you," he told me. That's the best piece of advice I have ever been given.
I wasn't too surprised when I got into Slytherin, even though my mom was a Ravenclaw. She always taught me to teach myself. "True learning comes from ones self, not me or a friend." I never understood that, but I always ended up having to learn on my own. Be the best on my own. Failure wasn't an option.
So yeah. I don't really have a tragic backstory. I'm excited for History and DATDA. Maybe I could do something with that someday. Who knows.
