Backstory

Early Life

Rickey Devan was born into a loving and disciplined family. His father managed a successful import–export business, often sharing stories of distant lands, rare species, and diverse cultures. His mother, a devoted teacher, shaped his values with lessons of empathy, responsibility, and respect for every living being.

From childhood, Rickey felt an unusual connection with nature, humans, and especially animals. Stray dogs and cats in his neighborhood trusted him instinctively. He fed them, treated minor wounds, and built small shelters during harsh weather. While other children chased games, Rickey chose quiet corners with injured birds or frightened puppies. He was protective by nature and stubborn when it came to defending those who could not defend themselves.

At nine years old, his magical abilities revealed themselves. When he saw a wounded dog being mistreated, his emotions triggered an invisible protective force that gently pushed the troublemakers away. The dog remained unharmed, and Rickey’s family soon realized his gift. Arrangements were made for him to attend Hogwarts.

Educational Background

Life at Hogwarts was not easy at first. Some classmates teased him for spending more time with magical creatures than with people, calling him “beast-whisperer.” Rickey ignored the mockery and focused on learning. He spent hours near the school grounds and forest boundaries, assisting injured owls, calming anxious creatures, and supporting professors during practical lessons.

He was sorted into Hufflepuff, a house known for loyalty, patience, and dedication—qualities that perfectly reflected his nature. Rickey took pride in belonging to a house that valued kindness and hard work over recognition. His loyalty was proven when he stood firmly against a reckless prank involving a magical creature, protecting it with quiet courage and preventing serious harm.

Rickey excelled in Care of Magical Creatures, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Healing Studies. Over time, he realized his purpose was not only to protect animals but also to strengthen the bond between humans and magical beings.

Work Background

After graduating, Rickey chose a practical and compassionate path. He joined a respected Magical Wildlife Sanctuary, where he worked directly with injured and endangered creatures. His days were devoted to rescue missions, rehabilitation programs, and ensuring safe environments for magical animals to recover and thrive.

Determined to expand his impact, Rickey pursued advanced Healing Studies and later accepted a role at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, specializing in creature-induced injuries and trauma care. His calm presence and deep understanding of animal behavior made him highly respected among colleagues and patients alike.

Eventually, together with two close friends from Hogwarts, he established a small independent clinic dedicated to creature welfare and community healing. The clinic became known for its compassion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to both magical creatures and humans.

When an opportunity arose to teach Care of Magical Creatures at Hogwarts, Rickey felt it was his true calling. After receiving his acceptance letter, he returned to the castle—this time as a Hufflepuff professor—determined to inspire students to value loyalty, empathy, and harmony with all living beings.
