Valentina Potter

Backstory

Valentina Potter was born at a tea estate in Sukna, very closely situated to the foothills of the paradise-like mountains of Darjeeling and Kurseong in India. Darjeeling, also known as the Queen of Hills, holds a few secrets Valentina aims to discover. She was a happy soul with boundless energy and an enthusiastic and zealous spirit. Valentina spent her early life watching the living conditions of the people inhabiting the mountains, their lack of access to clean, drinking water, basic amenities, healthcare, and fresh food supplies, as all vegetables and meat in the market had to be imported from the plains and got stale in the process. The only natural occupation for people living in the hills was to pluck tea leaves from the most beautiful gardens in her country and sell them to the plain-dwellers, besides the rapidly dwindling industry of tourism, which almost no longer needs any more tourist guides in the more modern times, and mountaineering guides. Her childhood memories include summer vacations from her school in the mountains which she spent at her family-owned tea estate, helping the other tea estate workers pluck tea leaves. She enjoyed the hypnotizing smell of the best tea leaves in her country and making them into enchanting brews of different concentration and strength. She loved experimenting with mixing different types of teas in her kitchen. Her love for potions stemmed at an early age from this very knack towards making concoctions of different ingredients with varied varieties of tea leaves in different proportions and comparing the results. However, her love for healing and herbology came much earlier from the sufferings of the people around her that she wanted to heal. Healthcare was a remote possibility and the people living in the mountains surrounding her had to travel for hours to reach a basic Muggle hospital. She decided she wanted to help these people and become a healer. Somehow the refreshing and enticing scent of the tea leaves she grew around, spoke to her in her dreams, telling her that she would find all her answers to healing queries in the art of brewing and in the tea leaves. She grew up with this dream until she came to Hogwarts and found that there is indeed such a magical field known as Potions and a subject known as Herbology.

Her first instance of magic was in her childhood when she was working at the tea estate, plucking leaves, and a leopard (an animal very commonly found in the  forests of the mountainous regions of India and known for the frequent vicious attacks on the people living there) attacked a worker in the tea garden. She was agitated and anxious and attempted to shield and protect the worker whom she loved as her own nurse and her family's house maid when she grew up. Valentina was only 3 years old, and as she suddenly let out a loud wail and began to cry in the face of imminent danger, something very weird happened, causing an accidental fire of reasonably huge magnitude to scare the leopard away. Since then, the tea estate never saw another leopard attack, but no one could explain the sudden fire. Valentina knew that it was something that came from within her but she had no knowledge of magic until her distant aunt visited her home one sudden afternoon and told her about magic, she was ten years old then, only one year away from her Hogwarts letter, and she felt proud of herself, only to discover that she was just one among the millions of witches and wizards in the Hogwarts Castle when she finally arrived at Hogwarts. Valentina is mostly quiet despite her energy, but she can be very chatty once she meets an expert conversation starter who can begin great conversations and make her feel hugely at ease. She may sometimes need a lot of reassurance but is generally confident, calm, composed, and with a slightly mysterious aura in her demeanor. She can be witty and humble, though she usually prefers to be straightforward and clear with a penchant for fishing out the real truth eventually. 

Her favorite canon subjects are DADA, Charms, Potions, and Transfiguration. She aims to become an Auror or Healer some day, but wouldn't mind brainstorming ideas and decision-making in an administrative position in the Ministry of Magic. Valentina enjoys Flying and Quidditch besides her love for education and academic excellence and can also be a skilful and prompt decision maker.
