Backstory

It was a long time before I was allowed to come to Hogwarts.

My parents didn't believe in magic- in charms, spells and potions. They just preferred using more "muggly" tools to solve problems and do other stuff. Which is why, instead of drinking the syrupy sweet potions I now get in the Hospital Wing, I had to drink weird-tasting medicine. Ugh, yuck! And life was never much fun before I turned 12. My parents were and are nice, but however, without charms, spells and potions, it was pretty boring.

To add on, my parents were one of those people that expect you to do well in muggle school. And oof, those lessons! They made me yawn, so I basically read under the desk throughout all of them or read fanfics. Which is why my brain towards Muggles is a pea... but it did prove that I was a Ravenclaw all right!

Finally, finally, the letters started to arrive. For some reason, my parents kept them from me...seriously, they really do want me to have a sad childhood. But then, my new favourite professor, Filius Flitwick, showed up at my house and was asking to see me. As my parents had not seen his wand or his robes (he was wearing Muggle clothing), they thought it was one of those "Gifted Students Program" thingies.

Wrong, wrong, wrong! He appeared at my door, explained the situation to me, but told my parents something different, "Your daughter Luna will need to come with me to a special school for the gifted. It's a boarding school.  She is allowed to visit in the summer, and she may want to continue her adulthood there as a professor, or she may choose not to. The choice is up to both of you. Therefore, I'll give you a moment to discuss this," He then flashed his made-up name tag at my parents. Wow...he was a great, great liar.

Needless to say, my parents were head over heels in delight and allowed me to do so. Filius Flitwick then brought me to Diagon Alley, where he gave me my starter galleons and let me choose a pet, school things, a wand, and secretly had ice-creams with me. When I arrived back by Floo Powder, I lied that these were my school things that Filius had purchased with me. I had no idea WHY- but they fell for it!

-Fast forward to September 1st-

On September 1st, Filius Flitwick brought me to King's Cross station and boarded the Hogwarts Express with me. Holding my precious bag of starter galleons, my pet owl Bookworm and my trunk, I stepped foot on the scarlet Hogwarts Express. For the first part of the journey, I sat alone, reading my new wizarding textbooks and trying out my quills. I also did a fat lot of daydreaming. Not long after, the Trolley Witch came along with a friendly looking girl with blue glasses. "Hi...I'm Kaitlyn," she announced in a high-pitched yet pleasant voice.

I predicted what she was going to ask. "Sure, you can sit with me." I patted the seat opposite myself. Nodding excitedly, she sat down. Then, the Trolley Witch asked us what snacks we wanted. As both of us were rather adventurous that day, we tried out things like Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, Sugar Quills and my favourite Pumpkin Pasties. After that, we chatted about stuff. What did you do on the first part of the journey? What Hogwarts house do you hope to get into? She was so like myself-nerdy, a soft toy lover, and shared about the same backstory as me. Both of us believed that this friendship was meant to be and were best friends by the time we got off the Hogwarts Express.

The boat ride to Hogwarts was amazing! The grand, beautiful yet welcoming Hogwarts stood in front of us. The water shimmered with the twinkling Hogwarts lights and the boats swayed gently. On the train, I'd heard of giant squids splashing you but we all had a nice peaceful journey to the castle where I would now call home.

It was Sorting time. All the students looked hungrily at us, and some glared. I guess they were hungry after a long trip here and wanted to eat ASAP. But...where was the food? Anyway, not long after, the Sorting Hat landed on my head. "Ahhh...a clever mind I see, bookworm, yet loves to be kind and loves adventure...difficult...so very difficult. Let's see. Cuz I look into your mind, Luna." A few moments passed by, and then it announced my fate. " Ravenclaw!"

The hat had taken a longer time to decide Kaitlyn's house, but she soon joined me at the Ravenclaw table. Both of us were excited and enthusiastic that we had the same dorm and common room now. And about the food? The Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, waved his wand and food appeared on the shiny brown tables. Pumpkin juice, potatoes, pie...it was all really delicious. Filius Flitwick even winked at me when both Kaitlyn and me snuck our books under the table to read as we ate.

Hogwarts is an amazing place, really. Though we have to deal with strict professors like Snape and McGonagall, there were also nice ones like Flitwick and Sprout. Some classes were boring, but though Snape was there, I like Potions, Charms and Herbology. And my common room was a great place to be.

I'm still having a nice life at Hogwarts, what about you my fellow student?
