Backstory

(LD: Dyslexia)

Ezekial could still remember the day he learned to read. To truly read. Before that point, in elementary school, he struggled like everyone else did to read the simplest picture books, stumbling across every word and sentence. It wasn't until one fateful car trip that something in him snapped like a rubber band, electricity that coursed through his veins as he realized that everything he had read up until that point... was wrong. After that, he could truly understand every word, every phrase he saw, and desperately sought more. It wasn't long until he got his hands on his first fantasy novel.

Three hundred pages turned to five, with Ezekial devouring larger and larger books and series until he was years ahead of anything his peers could hope to match in a matter of weeks. One could say he was ahead in a matter of days, with how quickly he inhaled his books. At some point though, Ezekial became aware of something, some kind of pain in his chest.

Magic and fantasy was something of his specialty, courtesy of the books he had read up until that point. Books that, once he finished them, left an hole in his soul and a feeling like he had lost his best friend, the words on the pages being only a fleeting comfort until he reached the end, and was plunged back into cruel reality. It was like being jerked back into the darkness on a leash that wrapped around his throat, keeping him from chasing that warm summer sunlight.

It was this reality that further separated Ezekial from the other children. They would keep playing, ignorant of what it meant to live in the real world: there was no fantasy. There was no magic. There were no grand quests to enjoy just... the gray clouds up above and the muddy snow on the ground. He hated it, with every fiber of his being.

Ezekial would continue like this for several, drifting through his studies and consuming as much fantasy as he could even despite the pain it caused him until that one fateful day that many other children. His Eleventh birthday. The day the letter from Hogwarts arrived, accompanied by a Hogwarts professor, as is the tradition for Muggleborn children.

The day his world was changed forever. The day he could combine his love of magic and fantasy with education, a fortuitous combination that allowed for the ultimate combination of Ezekial's prodigal academic and mental ability.

After the exciting twists and turns of Diagon Alley and the trip in the Hogwarts Express, it was the Sorting that would truly begin the fun. Ezekial began by stating what he viewed as the most logical choice, which combined with his intellectual potential caused the Hat to argue back for Ravenclaw. It was an argument Ezekial quickly won, if only out of stubbornness than anything else.

It was the first day of Hogwarts. The first day where Ezekial was sorted into Slytherin, and would have the most fun of his life.
