Darcy's mother, Hortense, was a powerful, promising witch during her time at Hogwarts. After graduation and a few years of teaching Herbology at the school, she decided to join the Order of the Phoenix to help oppose Voldemort's forces. There she met Sylvester, a young, bright, reckless duelist hellbent on proving to every single one of his peers he was unparalleled at magical combat. Both from lines of half-bloods with a keen interest in muggles, they took a home in Sussex and concieved a daughter. Not long after, Hortense ended up dying in the field, which was highly traumatizing for Darcy's father. He vowed to never return to the wizarding world, took Darcy and built a magical cottage that could soar the sky. It had an immense garden, which helped him learn to live independently as a homesteader. He built his very own greenhouse also, where he could grow his late wife's strange beloved plants and he homeschooled Darcy, who grew to be very comfortable and skillful around them. As a consequence of not having developed much of a relationship with her mother and having no other children to interact with, Darcy gained a passion for reading, especially reading about history, magic and ghosts. She ended up befriending quite an impressively large number of wandering ghosts in her travels, some of whom were even adopted into the family. She figured she might discover her mother still lingered somewhere, somehow, but she never did find her. Despite Sylvester's many efforts to completely alienate his daughter from the wizarding world, letters from Hogwarts came to the cottage wherever it went. The owls seemed to chase them off by their very scent and it was only a matter of time before Darcy managed to convince her softspoken dad to let her attend the school. Darcy is quite talkative, clumsy and intelligent, though she may sometimes seem scattered. Most will find that she does often forget people aren't dead and incorporeal. She is a very bold young girl who is infinitely curious and loves daydreaming, writing and gardening. Her magic at first consideration seems to be powerful but undirected and she hopes to find all the direction she needs during her time here at Hogwarts.
